The dental services delivered by our network’s School-Based Health Centers are critical for the families and children we care for. Being able to see a dentist or hygienist during the school day, without having to travel and majorly disrupt learning is a game-changer, especially in local communities where access to dental care can be limited.

Jane Hamilton, RN, practice manager of our School-Based Health Program, appeared as part of a panel of experts on WCNY’s Connect NY broadcast to take part in a discussion on this important public health issue. Click below to watch the full program.

The panel explores the state of dental care, challenges with access, and possible solutions.

As National Health Center Week comes to a close, we want to share our appreciation for all of the dedicated people working on the frontlines in our family medicine practices across the network.

Each of Bassett Healthcare Network's over two dozen health centers, located across 9 counties, fulfills a vital role in the rural town or village where it is located. Patients in need can see practitioners they trust, who are often their neighbors, and care relationships span multiple generations.

We honor our caregivers and team members who make these places of care and healing so welcoming, neighborly, and a true medical home. Thank you for all that you do for our patients.

Tick bites can happen to anyone - whether you're an outdoor enthusiast or someone who barely leaves your home. According to the CDC, you can use these landscaping techniques to reduce the number of blacklegged ticks on your property.

- Mow frequently. Short grass exposes ticks to sunlight, making it harder for them to survive.
- Place a three foot wide barrier of wood chips or gravel between lawns and wooded areas. This can restrict tick migration from the woods to the lawn.
- Clear tall grasses and brush. Rake and remove leaves promptly in the autumn.
- Consider installing a fence to prevent wild animals that can carry ticks from entering your yard.

Always remember to check yourself for ticks and tick bites after you've spent time outdoors. If you are concerned you may have been bitten, see your Bassett provider. Several tick-borne diseases, like anaplasmosis, can lead to severe illness if left untreated. We want to honor and thank Security Officer Robert Meiser and K-9 Hudson, who are retiring today after more than 6 years of service to our network. Officer Meiser and Hudson were the very first K-9 unit to join our team, and their leadership, professionalism, and compassion have built our K-9 program to what it is today. They have worked to keep our patients and caregivers safe every day. May their retirement be full of peace, relaxation, (and many open fields, treats, and Kong chew toys for Hudson!). Congratulations and thank you for your service. We will miss you.
