Not all CPAP masks are created equal and choosing the wrong one might be exactly why some people give up on therapy altogether! Let's break down the three most common types so you can find YOUR perfect fit:
--Full Face Mask: covers both your nose and mouth. Best for mouth breathers, frequent snorers, or anyone who wakes up with a dry mouth. Can feel bulkier but is a great option if you deal with nasal congestion regularly.
--Nasal Pillow Mask: the most minimal option, sitting directly at your nostrils. Perfect if you feel claustrophobic with larger masks or are an active sleeper. Keep in mind it may not be ideal for higher pressure settings.
--Nasal Mask: covers just your nose. Lightweight, easier to seal, and works great for side sleepers. Not the best choice if you tend to breathe through your mouth at night.
The right mask can be the difference between therapy that changes your life and one that ends up in your nightstand drawer. At Des Moines Sleep Specialists, our team takes the time to find the mask that works best for YOUR face, YOUR sleep style, and YOUR comfort.
