To all of our patients and families,

Julie, our staff, and I would like to sincerely thank you for choosing Waggoner Pediatrics for your child’s care. We know you have many options in healthcare, and we are grateful for your trust and loyalty. Every day, we strive to provide care that not only meets—but exceeds—your expectations.

Thanks to our experienced pediatric registered nurses, we are able to offer same-day appointments, a triage nurse available each business day to answer questions and coordinate referrals, and access to speak with me outside of regular office hours when needed.

While it may sometimes feel easier to visit an urgent care, when you come to our office, your child is seen by pediatric specialists who are trained to care for even the sickest children. At urgent care, your child is not always evaluated by a pediatrician.

We truly appreciate when you choose our office for your child’s care beyond routine preventive visits. Your support allows us to staff our practice appropriately and continue providing the highest level of care for your family.

At Waggoner Pediatrics, our top priority is providing safe, accurate, and high-quality medical care for your child. Because home tests cannot give us the full clinical picture we need to make treatment decisions, we require an in-office evaluation before prescribing any medication for flu, COVID-19, or other acute illnesses, including antivirals (such as Tamiflu or Paxlovid) and antibiotics.

This policy ensures:
- Appropriate diagnosis
- Safe prescribing
- Thorough assessment

If your child tests positive on a home test or is showing symptoms, please call our office to schedule a visit. Same-day appointments are almost always available.

🎃 Halloween Office Hours Update! 👻
Waggoner Pediatrics will be closing early at 3:30 PM today (Friday, October 31st) so our team can enjoy some trick-or-treating fun with their families!

Update for Iowa Total Care Families

Our contract with Iowa Total Care ended on October 19, 2025, and our last day seeing Iowa Total Care patients was Friday, October 18.

Some families have told us they’ve had trouble switching to a new plan to stay with our clinic. According to the Iowa Total Care Member Handbook, you are allowed to change plans when:

“Your provider has been terminated or no longer participates with your MCO.”

That means you can still switch to another Managed Care Organization (MCO) — even outside of open enrollment — to continue care with Waggoner Pediatrics.

To switch:

📢 Important Update for Iowa Total Care Families

Iowa Total Care has made the decision to end its contract with Waggoner Pediatrics, effective October 19, 2025. Our last day seeing Iowa Total Care patients will be Friday, October 18, 2025.

This change was not related to the quality of care or any disciplinary matter — it was a business decision made solely by Iowa Total Care. We know many of our families have received letters from ITC, and we want to be clear that Waggoner Pediatrics did not choose to leave their network.

Our priority is helping your family continue care with the providers you know and trust.

How to Stay with Waggoner Pediatrics

You can remain a patient at Waggoner Pediatrics by switching to another Iowa Medicaid Managed Care Organization (MCO) that includes us in their network.
