6 teaspoons for women, 9 teaspoons for men. 🍫☕
These are the daily recommended added sugar limits for adults, and they add up freaky fast. Added sugars are frequently found in everyday foods like breakfast cereal, yogurt, and ketchup.
Regular consumption of excess amounts of sugar can pose the risk of long-term health problems, including weight gain, heart problems, and diabetes.
Here’s what to look for when you’re at the grocery store:
➡️ Choose more foods with natural sugar, which occurs naturally in fruits, vegetables, and dairy products.
➡️ Read labels to identify ‘added sugar’ or sugar that’s added during food processing. This is commonly listed as table sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and honey. Try to limit the products you’re consuming with added sugar or swap out a version with a natural sugar option.
