Spoke with the admistrator at the County Engineer’s office and was able to get the Ladd name on to the county cemetery map. Just a small step but hopefully a step to getting the cemetery noted in the county GIS map.

The particular Ladd family lineage here in Putnam County, Ohio that we are exploring, starts with the son of Thomas and Mary Ann (Ellyson) Ladd. Ellison James Ladd was born in 1770 in Charles City County, Virginia. Ellison was married at the age of 34 to Amelia "Milly" Riley on June 29, 1804 in Bourbon County, Kentucky. Ellison J. Ladd served in the War of 1812 as a Private in the 1 Regiment (McDonald's) of the Ohio Militia in 1813 at the age of 43. He left his wife and four children at home to fight for our country. Ellison and Amelia were parents to at least 8 children and Ellison made his living farming. Ellison arrived in Fort Jennings, Ohio in 1833 with his wife and children, taking up temporary residence in an abandoned log cabin in the old Fort. In 1840, Ellison was living in Perry Township in Putnam County, Ohio with his wife and a young female. He passed away in 1847 at the age of 77 after living a long life. Milly moves in with a son, Amos and then later a grandson, Edward, and passes away in 1865. There is no headstone for either to be found.

The Ladd Cemetery is a family cemetery composed of the decedents of Ellison J. Ladd, first pioneering family of Putnam County, Ohio, arriving in the year 1833. It is located in Jackson Township, in the 14000 block of Road 22-K, on the east side of road, 100 rods from the road at the north property line, toward the west bank of the Auglaize River. The lot is approximately a ½ acre and lies on private property.

I received a phone call from a Ladd relative in late October asking for help with this cemetery and I'm still unsure how much help I can really be.
Due to the location of this cemetery, I felt this page would be the best way for people to learn of its history. This cemetery has been private property since its inception in 1847 and access is not easily achieved as it lies 100 rods off of Road 22-K.
