This is a protective plant that offers hope and the sense that success is possible. Motherwort awakens the mother or loving parent within. Motherwort is also a heart tonic helpful with high blood pressure and heart palpitations and is sedative for anxiety. This is my number one plant ally! Skullcap is revitalizing to the nervous system- toning and cooling of nerve pain and inflammation and anti-spasmodic to nerves and the muscles around them. Skullcap promotes sleep and emotional resilience, and is supportive in a grieving process. I personally am a HUGE fan of single herb tinctures! I’m a person with a lot going on, and with a lot of symptoms and a lot of different herbs and supplements and medicines going in, it can be pretty hard to tell what is doing what. I have an affinity for single herb tinctures because I feel like I am connecting with a friend or ally. I can hear them, and I can tap in to what they have to share or offer. Kind of like how I would prefer to spend an afternoon with one person than in a crowded restaurant where there is so much noise I can’t even hear the person next to me. I make formulations too, and I take them and I love them! But taking one herb at a time lets me build a relationship with a specific plant more deeply and that is really important to me in my life and my practice.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Sick Witch Herbs is thrilled to announce our 23 plant single herb tincture line. Available now on the website.

All the tinctures in this new line are from plants that I have a close relationship with. Most of them come from plants that I have grown in my garden on the land I live on. I have gotten to know each plant over time. How much sun and shelter do they want? Which direction do they want to be facing? How much water? And with whom do they want to grow? How close or far away do I want them from my house?

The process of figuring out who I want to grow here has been largely determined by the weather and soil but I have stretched the limits of the conditions with irrigation, shade structures, working and remediation soil. There are a few plants used in Sick Witch Herbs medicine that have come from other growers locally and just a couple that come from other organic sustainably sourced plants-I had to bring them close even though my gardening skills and climate were not the right fit for growing them here.

Hello, this is Jonah—creator of Sick Witch Herbs. I went to herb school almost 10 years ago and have continued to learn about herbs since then. Something big moved for me this winter and Sick Witch Herbs was born. I stopped feeling that I needed to hide my chronic illness, pain, and disability in order to be a respected herbalist. In the often twisted world of social media and the “health” industry, a person’s main selling point is their image. Skinny people selling weight loss products and plans, people with blemish free (or airbrushed) skin sell acne treatments and skin care, and health care practitioners projecting pictures of radiant perfect health sell their wares and services. If you want to be like them, you will buy what they are selling. As a disabled person living rurally outside of a lot of in-person community, I do depend on the internet and social media to reach people. AND something in me got really clear that I’m not willing to pretend i’m someone i’m not in order to sell herbs or herbal services. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Most of what I know about healing, I know from my own journey with depression, anxiety, chronic lyme disease, electromagnetic illness, chemical sensitivity, complex ptsd, complex pain syndromes, endocrine imbalances, long term digestive issues, cervical spine degeneration among them. I want to learn from and hold up the brilliance that living in a sick body necessitates and cultivates. And I let go of a feeling that being sick makes me a less credible healer. Not only is being sick and disabled a full time job, it requires incredible physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, energetic, ancestral care and attention and this practice generates a pure and potent brilliance I just want to bask in. And I want to share.
