When Chris Morse lost his father to cancer, he honored his memory by donating and dedicating a room in his name. Six months later, Chris received his own diagnosis: stage IV throat cancer.

This is his powerful story of resilience, legacy and hope.

Meet Dee Morris. 👋

Last June, Dee’s world turned upside down when she received a life-altering diagnosis — uterine cancer. The journey that followed wasn’t easy, but nearly five months later in November after enduring six rounds of chemotherapy, she rang the bell surrounded by people that stood by her side every step of the way.

No one ever wants to hear the words ‘you have cancer’, but a strong support system can make all the difference. For Dee, it was that very support, especially from her wife, that stood by her side every step of the way.

She’s grateful not only for the quality care she received from her care team at Community Cancer Institute, but also for the love and kindness that surrounded her throughout her journey.

What’s next? Dee and her family are looking forward to more vacations, relaxation time and cherished moments together.

Meet Jeff Janzen and Casey Poteet.

As today begins World Cancer Support Month this August, we’re highlighting the power of connection in healing.

When Jeff was diagnosed with stage IV tongue cancer in 2021, he realized something was missing: someone who truly understood what he was going through. That realization inspired the creation of the Peer Mentorship Program here at Community Cancer Institute.

This program pairs patients currently in treatment with survivors who’ve walked the same road — offering support, encouragement, and understanding.

Today, three years cancer-free, Jeff is now a mentor to Casey Poteet. Through their connection, Jeff offers guidance, answers questions, and most importantly, simply shows up — as someone who gets what Casey is going through.

Thanks to the Peer Mentorship Program and our other support services, patients like Casey never have to face cancer alone. Sometimes, the greatest medicine is knowing someone is just a phone call away.
