A poem by me.
As a little girl.
If I had known all the tears that I would shed.
I think that the oceans are filled with my tears.
If I had known all the heaviness I would carry. All the days and nights of overwhelm.
I didn’t know life would hurt so bad.
I didn’t know I would lose myself.
If I had known how alone I would feel.
If I had known how hard it would be to pull myself out of the darkness.
If I had known what was ahead.
If I had only known…
But that’s the thing about life.
We don’t know.
We also don’t know of the joy that will come.
The friendships that will grow.
The light that will be shared.
The story that will inspire.
The strength that will be found inside.
The resilience that will come from your soul.
The way that hope will be given.
So when all seems lost, know that even in your struggle, you are still beautiful. Even more beautiful because you have felt both pain and joy.
Both sadness and hope. And you choose to keep going.
