James Garfield Smith went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Gloucester, Virginia. He was born on June 17, 1963 to the late James Tyler and Christine Smith at Cobbs Creek.
He is survived by his sisters; Carolyn Jones, Eleanor Dixon and Nancy Beverly.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 12:00 pm at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Cobbs Creek, Virginia. The viewing will held at the church from 11:00 -12:00 p.m. Forrest Brothers Funeral Home, Hudgins will be in charge of the service. Interment will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025 at Windsor Gardens Cemetery, Dutton at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to Ebenezer Baptist Church, Cobbs Creek.

Deacon George Washington Forrest, 97, of Susan VA died on Thursday, June 5, 2025. He is survived by his daughter Marlene Forrest-Green, his son George Steven Forrest and one brother Julius C. Forrest. A funeral will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Antioch Baptist Church, 110 Antioch Rd., Susan VA. A wake will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday at the church. Yvonne Wilson Jones, 76, of Fort Washington, Md., died on Feb. 15, 2025.

She was a member of Oxon Hill, Md. Engine 21/42 VFD & Fort Washington, Md. Engine 32, and a member of United Eagles Motorcycle Club.

Survivors include husband, Linwood Jones; daughter, Lana Weeks of Fort Washington; stepson, Dash Lee; two granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; six sisters, Marilyn Jarvis of Newport News, Va., Jewel Jackson; Starmander Lewis and LaContiss Donaldson of Gloucester, Jannis Franklin of White Plains, Md., and Kitty Spearman of Mitchellville, Md.; two brothers, Ernest E. Wilson III and Troy Wilson of Gloucester.

Visitation will be held at First Morning Star Baptist Church, Hayes, at 10 a.m. March 1, followed by a Celebration of Life service at noon.

Woodrow Wilson James passed away on January 25, 2025. He was born on September 23, 1946 to D-Day survivor Woodrow Wilson James Sr. and his wife Elizabeth Sutton James.

He was raised in rural Dutton, Virginia, and educated in Gloucester Public Schools. Woody was married to his childhood sweetheart, Nancy Sadler James. He served an apprenticeship as a tool diemaker and was employed as a maintenance technician at the Williamsburg Anheuser-Busch Brewery from 1972 to 2010.

He was a Master Mason and a member of Botetourt Lodge #7 in Gloucester, Urbanna Royal Arch Chapter, Khedive Temple of the Shrine, and the Tidewater Shrine Club where he was secretary.

Woody was member and served on the vestry of Ware Episcopal Church where he felt especially honored to be allowed to sing in their choir.

Woody is survived by his first and only wife, Nancy; sons, Ronald and Edward (Jennifer) James. Woody was the proud “Pop Pop” to three beloved grandchildren, Christopher, Emma and Luke. Also surviving Woody is his brother, Ronald; sister-in-law, Dorothy, as well as numerous cousins and other relatives from both sides of the family. Woody also treasured his friends.

A memorial service will be held at Kingston Episcopal Parish on Saturday, February 15 at 2 p.m. A reception will follow in the Parish House. Memorials will be gladly accepted by Kingston Parish, the Masonic Home of Virginia and Shriners Children’s Hospital, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29605.

Doris M. White ,82 of Mathews, daughter of the late Lafayette Burrell and Helena Brown, passed away on Thursday, January the 23rd 2025.
She also proceeds in death by her stepfather, Abraham Brown; son,Donald White Jr.; daughter,Veronica J.White; brother,Paul,Darnell and Leonard Burrell.
Survivors included daughter, Sharon White and son Darryl White and Jason White.
