STRAIGHT FROM THE STREET:

It's been a while since we've done one of these posts, so we thought we'd drop one out there. This case comes courtesy of one of our paramedic faculty from a recent shift they worked.

You respond to an assisted living facility for a patient who, "keeps falling or getting lightheaded." When you do your primary assessment, you recognize that the pulse is irregular. The patient is A&Ox4, speaking in full sentences, and communicating appropriately. Even though the facility states that the patient just needs, "a ride to the hospital," you decide that the patient warrants a paramedic evaluation and care.

Here's the rhythm strip that presents when you put the patient on the monitor; what are your working differential diagnoses and initial treatment plans?

The Schoharie County Department of Health is hosting a free drive-thru flu vaccine clinic on Monday, October 27, 2025, from 11am to 2pm at the Schoharie Fire Department. Similar to our rabies vaccination clinics, you remain in your vehicle through the entire process (we will do the walking for you!) We will meet you at your vehicle to complete paperwork. You will then drive forward to our nurses' station, and they will administer your flu vaccination. Following your shot, you will be asked to pull up and park for 5-10 minutes to ensure you do not experience any symptoms.

**Appointments are not required, but are strongly recommended. Please call Elizabeth at 518-295-8365 with questions or to schedule an appointment.

**Schoharie County Public Transportation is available if needed. You MUST call ahead to request a ride to the clinic. Call (518) 234-0952 to arrange your ride today.
