PDQ Spotlight: Sonya M.

Although my mother taught me how to thread her 40-pound Kenmore (I sewed tube dresses for my Barbie🙄), I didn’t really dabble into quilting until after college. Thinking that sewing straight lines would be “easy,” I optimistically tried to sew a wedding quilt for my friends. (They have loyally stored the unintentionally trapezoidal quilt for 29 years, understanding it was made with love but zero competence😜). However, it wasn’t until Covid that I decided to take quilting a little more seriously. I have been trying to push myself to get better - trying curves, paper piecing, English paper piecing, free motion quilting... The most difficult part for me is always choosing the colors! I can never make up my mind! My husband feels that he deserves credit for each finished quilt since his “yes, dear” therapy sessions help me to figure out which layout is best. My adopted prince, Pops - the shedder-in- chief, is also very “helpful” (see photo). My most unique creation is the map of the Boston subway system for my husband’s nephew, a public transportation fan! I am still in awe of the talent in this guild, and your support and inspiration are invaluable! Thanks for helping me on my quilting journey - though I still have a long way to go! (PS. My aunt, who lives in Germany, designed and sewed this quilt in her distinctive applique style).
