Canine Partners For Life (CPL) is a nonprofit organization located in Cochranville, Pennsylvania. CPL trains and places dogs to assist individuals with a wide range of physical and cognitive disabilities. CPL trains full-service dogs to provide physical assistance to their partner 24 hours a day, both at home and in public environments (for example, individuals with disabilities caused by ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, arthritis, diabetes, chronic fatigue syndrome, paralysis, amputation, and more). CPL also places full-service seizure-alert dogs to detect and alert to upcoming seizure activity. Finally, CPL places home-companion dogs with special-needs children or the elderly to work in the home environment. Each dog receives training adapted to meet the specific needs of its human partner. Skills may include how to retrieve items; operate light switches, elevator buttons, door openers; tug a laundry basket and put laundry in/out of the machine; roll someone over in bed to prevent sores; pay cashiers; open and close doors; assist with dressing and undressing; help an unsteady walker negotiate bumpy terrain or stairs; and a wide variety of other tasks. Just as important, the dogs provide a constant source of love and comfort. Please visit www.k94life.org or phone (610) 869-4902.

Special thanks to our friends at Assumption BVM for hosting a donation drive for CPL’s Wish List, and for inviting us to speak with your students about our organization! Joined by Laurel, Adams, and Shelly, CPL staff and volunteers had the opportunity to educate ABVM’s entire student community about what a service or companion dog can do for someone. The students asked great questions, and got some pets in with Adams and Shelly before heading back to class. Thank you for your support of CPL!

What’s My Name Wednesday is back this week, featuring Barnabus and Zoey from Lovey’s second litter.

Barnabus was named by E.A.E., who chose the name because of the meaning behind it. When you search the meaning of the name, you find that it means supporter, or encourager – a perfect name for a future service or companion dog!

Zoey was named by D.G., who chose the name simply because they thought it was a perfect name for a sweet little female puppy! Zoey’s kind eyes and loving temperament make her a great match for her name!

The theme of this year’s Spring Gala, Unleashed is Written in the Stars. Voted on by CPL staff and volunteers, Written in the Stars celebrates the extraordinary belief that some connections are simply meant to be. Long before a service or companion dog meets their future partner, their journey is already unfolding – through dedicated training, and the unwavering support of volunteers and donors. Each step aligns with purpose, guiding the dog and person toward each other at exactly the right moment.

Let this year’s Spring Gala shine light on the life-changing bond between service and companion dogs and the individuals they support – proof that independence, companionship, and hope, can truly be Written in the Stars.

For What’s My Name Wednesday this week, we are featuring the other two puppies from Fritzi’s fourth litter, Autumn and Shelly.

Autumn was named by C.J., who shared, “Autumn is my favorite season of the year. I love everything pumpkin, foliage/changing leaves, Halloween, spooky season. The season of harvest or Autumn would be such a wonderful name for a fall puppy!”

Shelly was named by A.B., who shared, “Shelly was my husband’s daughter. She was raised in Texas. She never considered me a step-mom because we were relatively close in age and became very good friends. She loved coming to stay with us on holidays and during the summer… during those times, she became very familiar with CPL and spent time with whichever CPL pup was in our home. Shelly was diagnosed with myotonic dystrophy. As her disease progressed, her plan was to take early retirement and move in with us. She was so excited to become more involved with CPL. Sadly, she passed away before that all happened. Shelly was a strong, brave, and intelligent woman with a loving and kind spirit. So, this submission is in her honor as well as in honor of my husband.”

Family Pet Clinic (Southampton/Feasterville) has been supporting CPL puppies since 2021, sponsoring 10 puppies along the way! Thanks to their caring, patient-focused team, puppies like Clifford (pictured) receive stress-free veterinary care at no cost during their first year of training. Their generosity makes a meaningful difference in each puppy’s journey. Thank you for supporting our mission!

February is Matching Gifts Month! Did you know that more than 26 million Americans work for companies that offer matching gift benefits? However, only about 10% of eligible employees actually take advantage of these programs, leaving an estimated $4 to $7 billion in matching gift funding unclaimed every year! Think about what a difference even a small portion of that money would make for CPL.

Read your employee handbook or ask HR if your company will match donations. Some businesses only allow gift-matching for specific charities, so find out if CPL is one of them. You'll usually need proof of your donation (like a receipt) and a form to submit to your company to get the match. Some companies also match volunteer hours, so ask about those programs too.
