Good morning everyone. Time to share our adventures of the last 7 months. We faced two of the hardest parts in our lives. Closing Crabby’s Beach Wheels store, we are still heart broken. Closed but not forgotten; we are still trying to help family’s when we can and will continue to offer advice and sales. But no rentals.

The why: Pat had heart-liver transplant 12/23/2024. As most of you know Pat’s heart was bad (viral attack at 45years old). What most don’t know is in 2022 we learned heart meds killed his liver and heart was significantly worse. Pat was listed for transplant 9/2024. We moved to Tennessee so he could transplant at Vanderbilt. He has spent 5 months in the hospital and rehab to get moving again. Finally home 5/9/2025. I worked very little as Pat fought to live.

Now we try to get life back. Health, mental, financial. We will be moving again so I can have a full-time job to provide for our family. I can say, not looking forward to moving again, but so ready to have a life again. Ask questions, send prayers. There are news reports that former President Trump referred to Vice President Harris as “retarded.” We at Special Olympics have no way of knowing if this is true.

If it isn’t true, we’re relieved. If it is true, we’re saddened.

Special Olympics athletes have led an effort to ask people to end the use of the R-word for a simple reason: It’s painful. It’s humiliating. It’s dehumanizing.

When they hear the R-word, our athletes often report feeling crushed. Some withdraw in shame. Others in tears. It’s as though the word reminds our athletes of all the ways our society sees them as worthless and insignificant. And nothing could be further from the truth.

For these reasons, if former President Trump did use the word, we’d invite him to meet with our athletes to understand their perspectives. They would surely ask him to end his use of the R-word and join them in building a future where treating each other with dignity is the goal for everyone in our great country.
