James Arthur Macklin
James A. Macklin, age 69, passed away on April 18, 2026. Born in Tiverton, England, to Frank and Margaret Macklin, Jim moved to the United States in 1998. He was self-employed as a general contractor, remodeler and handyman, taking great pride in his work and the relationships he built along the way.
Jim was especially proud of his time serving in the Royal Navy aboard the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal and the anti-submarine frigate HMS Berwick. He also looked back fondly on his involvement with the Sea Cadets, where he was the first in the South West of England to receive the Bass-Charrington silver trophy for outstanding cadet on the training ship TS Royalist. Jim carried that sense of dedication and camaraderie throughout his life; he kept in touch with shipmates and met up with many of those good friends over the years.
Following his naval service, he worked on offshore drilling vessels and Virgin Atlantic Airways. These careers allowed Jim to travel the world, providing him with countless stories which he loved to share. He formed many lasting friendships in both the Orlando and Cocoa Beach, Florida communities. Jim (aka “Jimmy Mac”) enjoyed spending time with friends, especially at Fiddler’s Green in Winter Park, The Pig & Whistle and Paddy Cassidy’s in Cocoa Beach, where he was a familiar and welcome presence.
Known for his generosity and loyalty, Jim was the kind of person who would do anything for a friend—and his friends were always there for him in return.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Debra DeLuca, Mike Speltz, Kate Thornton, Mick Graham and family, Chris Baxter, Momar Fall, Roxanna Askarova, Ian Congalton, and the many others who supported Jim during his illness. Your kindness and care meant so much.
Jim is survived by his sisters, Maureen and Jackie, whom he loved dearly and spoke of often; his siblings Eric, John, Joy, and Janet; and his son, Luke, along with Luke’s family.
Having lived a life of adventure and service, Jim has now Crossed the Bar. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
