Every person is creative. Whether it be through paintings, songs, landscapes, lesson plans, gardens, furniture, interior designs, mosaic floors, traffic patterns. Yet do we listen to the call and allow something to birth from us? Do we allow ourselves to be vulnerable enough for the world to see a piece of us within themselves, their homes, their pets, their friends, their communities? Do we say “yes” all the time, when creativity is asking for our attention?
I don’t know the answers to those questions for you. I do know that, since I was a child, writing has always been one of my creative outlets. My 8th grade English teacher, Denise Howard, saw that and encouraged me to explore it beyond the standard classroom assignments. I think of her often in my creative journeys. Honestly, I did not always make time to write as adult responsibilities took over and deceived my priorities. Yet I have learned that my writing is a direct extension of me. It heals my soul.
As I am months away from that mid-century point of my life, I want to share some of my writing creations with the hope that it might incite something in you. Something that bridges both the humanity and divinity of myself with both the humanity and divinity of you. Something that might poke and prod at your inner creative that has something to “say”.
Why does this anthology — that someone else dreamed and brought into the world — mean enough to me to announce to the world?
Because the other 42 women who provided pieces in the collection have a lifetime of experiences that inspired their creativity. And they all said “yes”, just like I did. That is something to celebrate. That is something to support. That is something to be proud to be part of. That is something that motivates my continued unfolding. That is something that keeps me drafting my own book.
I have no idea what other pieces are within Unfolding. But I am excited to find out, and honored to be one part of the whole.

A huge congratulations to my writing facilitator, Lisa Kinney Colburn, for publishing this work of art. Thank you seems trite, yet necessary. Lisa is an incredible writing coach, editor, and inspiration to always look toward what is possible. Please check out her website Market Street Writers... and consider ordering the book!
