POV: you’re my next client.

But for real, let’s talk about being a young therapist! I always get asked by my clients what my age is and they always love guessing. At first this was a source of insecurity for me, but now I see it as a strength. I have realized that there are many people looking for a therapist who understands the digital age, current pressures, and can understand (and even occasionally use lol) slang. Lately, I’ve been embracing the benefits of being a young therapist and love my clients who are looking for this ~vibe~ (for lack of better term).

We eat to provide our bodies with what it needs to function and flourish. Having a hard time sleeping? Try to make some of these tips habits for gradual improvement of your sleep. One of the worst things that you can do is lay in bed thinking about how much you need to sleep or counting the hours. Try to get up out of bed and do an activity to see if that changes your sleepiness levels.

recently quoted Jon Kabat-Zin’s definition of overwhelm and I have been thinking about it since. I love it because it ties our emotions to our physical being. It’s not just our mental state that is impacted, but our body and nervous system too. When we conceptualize our emotional states holistically, it’s easier to see where we are really being impacted.

Who doesn’t love a good sunset? Someone once told me that they use the phrase “one more sunset” as motivation to keep living when they are deep in their depression. This phrase struck me because it shows how the simplest of things can be used as protective factors when we are at our lowest. I want to encourage everyone to find the simple things that make life worth living, and to hold onto them tightly amidst the hardest of battles. Please let me know if you need help motivation!

I’ve been doing a lot of work with affirmations, and I wanted to share some that were given to me by a patient.

Affirmations can be super helpful if used correctly, but they are not the only tool in our toolboxes that we should be using. Affirmations help challenge core beliefs and core fears of ours. They also kickstart the process of changing our thoughts, which ultimately affect our emotions and behaviors. Let me know if you need help creating affirmations that fit for you!

Happy World Mental Health Day! Mental health has been a hot topic recently; especially since the pandemic triggered stress reactions in many people. My goal is that everyone in my community feels safe to ask and receive the help that they need. I think we can all work to be more vocal about our ups and downs, so that someone who really needs help will not feel alone. We got this, we just need each other. I see you, hear you, and am always advocating for you.
