This gesture carries so much meaning: growth, creativity, intention, and the courage to try something new. It’s a reminder that healing isn’t linear, and sometimes, progress looks like finding joy in creating something with your own hands.

So excited to be presenting this year at the in New Orleans with my team. Commit and Act is dedicated to helping health care workers in Sierra Leone and now in Colombia 🇨🇴 support people struggling with trauma following the war and other violent incidents, as well as with other issues (e.g. domestic and gender-based violence) and mental health difficulties. Health care workers are provided with training in an evidence-based therapeutic approach called Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). Our employees and independent contractors are also given ongoing supervision and support. We also conduct research on our projects so that we can refine and improve the services that we provide based on data and participants’ evaluations.

Here’s a worry eater!!! Art can be a powerful tool for kids to express what words can’t. Through drawing, painting, or crafting, children can explore their feelings, make sense of their experiences, and find relief from worries. Art offers a safe and creative outlet that supports emotional growth, builds confidence, and helps kids feel more in control of their inner world. 🎨💛

My heart is heavy as I process the devastating news of the tragedy experienced at Florida State University. As an and trauma clinician who has worked for many years with the survivors and their families, there are no words that can fully capture the heartbreak and fear that follows such senseless violence. My thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and the entire FSU community grieving this unimaginable loss.

To the students, faculty, and families affected—please know you are not alone and we stand by you! Let us hold together as a community the space for sorrow, anger, and grief—and let us also continue to advocate for gun safety, support, and change.
