About 6 months ago, we were very happy and excited to get our case management program started at our counseling clinic. We hired a great first staff on a PT basis, and she had done a terrific job getting our process set up, attending community events, and doing 1:1 work with clients. Case management services will have a key role in our new non-profit, Healing Hearts Community Services. Unfortunately, our first hire has had to put in her notice due to family health issues, so if you know of anyone interested in case management work, they can contact me, dan@hhforme.com for more information. The ideal candidate will have a BS in Social Work or a closely related degree and have had some experience in case management. We have an active clinic in downtown CdA and are some of the proud, the few, the ones who still serve Idaho Medicaid clients, including children. We are really pleased with this feature article on the clinic that is in the latest "Live Well" magazine. It captures the spirit of what we are doing and why. I'm glad Cory and the doll house got prominent coverage in it. Live Well comes out quarterly, and thousands of them are put on in-store racks and waiting rooms all over this area

We're now the proud parents of a new baby non-profit, Healing Hearts Community Services, Inc. Now I can write grants (I've done a million of them), get contracts, and generally do fundraising. This will help pay the rent and keep the lights on. Our first focus is on foster kids aging out of foster care.

I can appreciate wanting to get a pay raise, but in this case I would think all the extra tips they get would more than offset the need in salary $$.

It would be the first pay raise for members of Congress since 2009.

So, as some of you know, I was the county clerk for 15 years and very engaged in the election process. I tend to be old school, so while I made lots of efforts to provide early absentee voting for folks to have choices, I have tended to want to vote on election day at my polling site to get a feel of things as much as anything else. Well, not this year. I've decided to go in and vote at the elections office this morning and be able to sleep easy tonight in case I get hit by a truck or something else tomorrow. It is too important to take a chance if you don't have to.

An easy primer on which way to vote on Prop 1. If you're good with paying for elections with your own hard earned property tax $$ so only some "rated and vetted" people and their minders can have their private election while slurping at the public trough, then vote no. But if you think ALL all the people who pay for public elections should get to vote in them, since they paid pay for them, then vote YES. Class over!

Well, just got home from Kootenai Health where I had a little "nip and tuck" procedure for a couple of hernias. A great team led by Dr. May. When I went down the list of optional equipment, I passed on the whitewalls but checked the box for a new set of 6-Pac abs, figured what the hey. Still too sore to attend our council meeting tonight but will be watching. If I were there, I would be voting to confirm Woody's choice of Kenny for our open council seat and happy we got the best person for the job and honored the right process in the mix. It's a great day to be a council guy in Coeur d'Alene.

I got a message from a constituent earlier this evening with a disturbing message that a white supremacist group was having an event down at McEuen Park complete with loudspeakers and a planned torchlight parade later. I just got back from down there and am happy to report that it was the opposite of what was feared. It is a group (which you can Google to read all about them) that is actually raising awareness to combat human trafficking. I talked with some of our police who said they had no problems with the event but they were going to let them know that they need to get a permit in they have another event in the future. At times, I am really happy for what you might call a false alarm.

We'll I've never had the occasion to consider a gun safe before. But now I'm hearing we may need one to keep our Costco toilet paper safe. What a world we are coming too...
