Turkey burgers aren’t just delicious, they’re a smart summer choice for women’s health. When made with lean ground turkey, they provide high-quality protein to support muscle, fullness, and weight management. A 3-ounce serving offers over 25 grams of protein, nearly half the daily recommendation for women.

Lower in saturated fat than beef, turkey also supports heart health and healthy cholesterol levels. It’s rich in essential nutrients like B vitamins, selenium, zinc, and iron which are all important for energy, immunity, and hormone balance.

Looking for a satisfying, nutritious meal? Grill a turkey burger with fresh toppings and a whole grain bun for a feel-good summer dish. Here's a recipe: https://www.budgetbytes.com/greek-turkey-burgers/

Heading Outdoors This Summer? Don’t Let Food borne Illness Crash the Party! Hiking, boating, and camping are amazing ways to lift your spirits, breathe fresh air, and stay active. But when outdoor meals are on the agenda, food safety should be too. Whether you’re on the trail or the water, keeping your meals safe is just as important as planning your route.

Here are some essential food safety tips for your next adventure:

-Plan ahead – Know what you’ll eat and how you’ll prepare it.

-Keep it cold – Use coolers, frozen gel packs, or frozen drinks to keep food below 40°F.

-Stay clean – Wash hands with soap and water, or use sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

-Separate raw and cooked foods – Avoid cross-contamination.

-Use a food thermometer – Cook meat to safe temperatures (e.g., 160°F for ground beef).

-When in doubt, throw it out – If your cooler’s out of ice, it’s time to toss the leftovers.

Whether you’re car camping, backcountry hiking, or spending a day on the boat, smart food choices can help you stay safe and healthy. Have questions about keeping you and your family healthy this summer? Call Health Care for Women at (208) 765-1455.

Summer in North Idaho means lakeside picnics, hikes in the mountains, and long days in the sun—but if you’re expecting, it’s important to know how to stay safe.

BUG SPRAY
North Idaho’s forests and trails mean more ticks and mosquitoes, which can carry harmful diseases. Use bug spray as directed. Call the office if you have any questions on what you can use.

PICNIC FOODS
Grill season is on! But make sure your burgers and steaks are well done. Undercooked meat and processed foods like hot dogs and deli meats may carry listeria—a dangerous bacteria for pregnant women.

SUNSCREEN
The sun’s strong at our elevation and near the water. Pregnancy makes your skin more sensitive, so choose a sunscreen with SPF 30+ and limit sun time during peak hours.

Soak up the summer safely—with the right protection for you and your baby. Call our office if you have any questions at (208) 765-1455.

Today, focus on just one good thing. A walk in the sunshine, a quiet cup of tea, a kind word to yourself. These small joys add up — and they matter more than you think.

Becoming a mother is beautiful, but it’s also exhausting. Whether it’s your first baby or your fifth, the weeks and months after delivery can feel overwhelming, physically and emotionally. That’s why support matters.

Did you know? While the “postpartum period” is often defined as the first 12 weeks, the entire first year is a high-risk time for new moms—especially if you had a complicated pregnancy or delivery.

Support Comes in Many Forms:

-Your OB-GYN, midwife, nurses, doula.
-Pediatricians, lactation consultants, general practitioners, physical therapists, and more.
-Your partner, friends, and family.
-Virtual visits and online mental health support.

Whether it’s a physical issue or a mental health concern, your network can help notice warning signs, even before you do. If something feels off, don’t wait. You deserve care, support, and peace of mind.

At Health Care for Women, we’re here to be part of your care team and your support.

Call us at (208) 765-1455 to talk about your postpartum care needs or schedule a visit. You’re not alone, and we’re here for you every step of the way. https://www.hcfwcda.com/pregnancy/

It's vacation time.

We know taking a break is so needed—but vacations can also throw off your routine, especially when it comes to staying active and eating healthy.

If you’re like most of us, exercise is the last thing on your mind. And sure, burgers and beach days sound way better than morning jogs. But guess what? You don’t have to choose one or the other. With a little planning, your fitness can travel with you!

Here are simple ways to stay fit and feel great while still enjoying your time away:

1️⃣ Start with a walk or jog — It’s the perfect way to explore a new city or beach. Lace up your sneakers and go sightsee!

2️⃣ Plan a few meals — Enjoy local cuisine, but balance it with a smoothie or salad now and then. Booking a place with a kitchen can help too!

3️⃣ Indulge (a little) — Vacation calories don’t count, right? Just try not to overdo it—especially with sweets or heavy meals.

4️⃣ Watch the alcohol — A few drinks are fine, but remember to hydrate and take it easy. Your body will thank you.

5️⃣ Drink water all day — Especially if you're out in the sun or having cocktails. Add a pinch of salt or grab some coconut water for electrolytes!

6️⃣ Pack your vitamins — Boost your immune system with Vitamin C, Zinc, and probiotics. Nobody wants to get sick on vacation!

7️⃣ Move when you can — Swim, dance, hike, take the stairs—just get your body moving!

8️⃣ Quick workouts, anywhere
Squats, Lunges, Planks, Crunches, Dips, and Push-ups

9️⃣ Breathe & slow down — A few minutes of meditation each day helps you stay calm, grounded, and fully present.

🔟 Get quality sleep — Don’t pack your days too tight. Rest is just as important as activity when it comes to wellness.

Need help creating a healthy routine that works for your lifestyle—vacation or not? We’re here for you at Health Care for Women! Call us at (208) 765-1455 for personalized support and wellness tips.
