Lets talk headaches and neck work.
Headaches like migraines, tension headaches, and TMJ‑related pain can make it almost impossible to function, even when life expects you to carry on as normal.
Many of these headaches are closely tied to the health of the muscles in your neck, shoulders, and jaw.
Why your neck matters:
As the neck diagram shows, the cervical region is made up of multiple layers of muscles that attach into the base of the skull and the tops of the shoulders.
When these muscles become chronically tight or overloaded, they often develop myofascial trigger points—tiny hyper‑irritable knots that can refer pain into the head and face
How tight muscles create headaches:
Trigger points in the upper trapezius, levator scapulae, sternocleidomastoid, and suboccipital muscles commonly refer pain upward, where it is felt as band‑like tension headaches, migraines, or pain behind the eyes.
simply put, your upper back and neck are “pulling” on the base of your skull, changing posture and compressing sensitive nerves and joints that feed pain into the head.
Where massage comes in:
Targeted therapeutic massage and trigger‑point work to the neck, shoulders, and jaw have been shown to reduce the frequency and intensity of tension‑type and TMJ‑related headaches by releasing these irritated points and improving circulation.
By calming the nervous system and restoring normal muscle length and movement, massage helps shift you out of constant guarding and allows the head and neck to move without that familiar ache
What to expect in a session:
During a session, an in‑depth assessment identifies which muscles in your neck, upper back, and jaw are contributing to your specific headache pattern.
Then focused manual techniques—trigger‑point compression, myofascial release, and gentle joint and soft‑tissue mobilization—are used to reduce tension, ease referral pain, and support more headache‑free days
