We exclusively specialize in the evaluation and treatment of children from birth through adolescence. Our goal is to help children develop the skills they need to successfully participate in everyday activiti

es such as walking, talking, eating, and playing at home, at school, and in the community. Our team of highly-trained PTs, OTs, and SLPs provide each child with the developmental, orthopedic, and neurological support they need to reach their potential in the most effective and efficient manner possible. We look forward to partnering with your family and the other members of your child’s team to optimize all aspects of his or her development. Every child deserves the opportunity to reach his or her full potential. While children achieve meaningful gains at all ages, early intervention is critical for providing your child with the best opportunity for optimal success. We offer fast, flexible scheduling, and we accept most insurances, including Idaho Medicaid. At Jump Start Pediatric Therapy, we understand that a successful treatment partnership is built on trust. In collaboration with you and the other members of your child’s team, we design an individualized treatment plan and develop functional goals to address the specific needs of your child. During this process, we encourage you to share your insights, goals, and information about your child’s performance in other settings. Our therapists will work closely with you to provide education, involve you during therapy visits, and support carry-over of therapeutic activities at home, school, and in the community. All therapy is provided one-on-one by a licensed therapist. Treatment caseloads are carefully managed to ensure that our therapists are available to dedicate time and attention to each child beyond the actual treatment session.

October is National Physical Therapy Awareness month, where we celebrate our amazing Physical Therapists and all that they do.

Physical therapy helps to promote age-appropriate gross motor milestones for kids of all ages, as well as independent mobility skills. This can include areas of strength, flexibility or range of motion, coordination, balance, ball skills, and posture.

Our Physical therapists work hard to help each child on their caseloads to meet their highest potential in order to be able to participate in activities with peers and family, as well as participate in sports and activities in the community.

Help show your appreciation for our PT's this month as we celebrate all of the things PTs can and have done. Thank you Ellison, Amanda, and Megan for all that you do. Special shout out to Mrs Gracee as she learns about the world of physical therapy at our clinic.

School starts back up next Tuesday for many of our kids. As we near this exciting time, here are some tips to help your child adjust to the changing routines, whether it's their first year in school, or 8th year in school.

Start getting used to the school schedule now. Slowly set back their bedtime in 15 minute increments until it is at the time they will need to go to bed when school starts. Also, adjust their wake time to accommodate to the time they will need to get up for school. Consistent sleep schedules that allow your child to get enough sleep will allow their brains to function optimally. Starting this early will allow the first day of school to go smoother.

Tour the school. Many schools offer tours during orientation. This will take some of the fear out of the first day so that your child will know what their classroom looks like, meet their teacher, and become more comfortable when school stars. If the school schedule is available, you can walk through the schedule with your child so they know where to go and are familiar with the different rooms they will be in. Point out close bathrooms and the lunchroom as well. Don't forget to take a trip to the playground as well!

Allow your child to help pick out what they will wear on the first day of school. This will help them to feel more control and may improve their confidence to go to school on that first day.

Social stories can help many of our kids with changes and the unknowns associated with going back to school. This is a time of uncertainty for many of our kids and social stories can be very helpful to help them feel more comfortable with the transition.

Meet with your therapist to discuss any needs your child may have to help them get used to going back to school or attending school for the first time.

As we near back to school, lets talk about posture in the classroom. Whether your child is home schooled or you send your child to school, posture is of utmost importance to consider in order to improve their ability to attend to their desktop work, focus on what the teacher is presenting, and improve the child's capacity for learning.

Key factors for proper seated posture are:
- feet should be flat on the ground
- knees, hips, and ankles should be at 90 degrees
- straight spine
- desk height should be appropriate to allow for elbows to prop under the shoulders if needed

Proper posture allows the child to engage the appropriate muscles to keep themselves upright, allows their brain to focus on the material presented, and encourages optimal functioning of the hands and arms.

Keep in mind that if this is new, your child may fatigue quickly. Give them breaks and allow opportunities for sensory breaks like wiggles, walking around, etc. If you have questions about your child's posture in the classroom or home, ask your child's therapist(s) to discuss ways to accommodate and adapt your child's environment to their needs.
