Why is the Kootenai Health Logo Called 'The Spark'? 🌟

In 2012, Kootenai Health was undergoing a significant transformation with an emphasis on becoming a regional referral center. While Kootenai Medical Center had a good reputation, the brand didn’t represent the new vision that was forming for the organization. Kootenai Health’s communications and marketing team, along with key members of the administrative team began work with a branding and marketing firm to survey the community, conduct focus groups with employees and community members, and assess other brands.

The research supported the development of a new logo that would better represent Kootenai Health and who we were becoming. All the research was shared with a local designer, Ben Tran, who offered dozens of options that embodied Kootenai Health’s culture of excellence and compassion. These were reviewed and refined to ultimately develop the Spark we have today. The right side of the Spark is a stylized letter “K” expressed in the same shades of blue used in Kootenai Health’s logo for many years. These blues honor our heritage and represent health and healing. The left side of the Spark mirrors the right side. Its greens represent growth and new life. Together they create the Spark, which represents how we are reaching out and working together to lift people up and improve health across our region.

In 2025, the Kootenai Health Foundation gave the hospital $1,755,000 to directly benefit the patients and staff at Kootenai Health. Through gifts from generous donors like you, the Foundation was able to provide:⁠

$1,317,000 in equipment and supplies including:⁠
- Two new 3D mammography systems for Women’s Imaging Center⁠
- Thirteen new NICU isolettes⁠
- Upgraded blood analyzer machine for the laboratory⁠
- Specialized gurney for Labor and Delivery patients⁠
- Piano for North entrance lobby to enhance patient and family experience⁠
⁠
$204,000 for employee, patient and community benefit and recognition programs including the family fund for employee assistance, cancer patient support program, compassionate care patient support program, mammograms for uninsured patients and clothing closet for patients in need of clothes upon discharge⁠
⁠
$97,000 to support Cardiothoracic Surgical Residency, Emerge addiction program, geriatrics and forensic nursing staff positions⁠
⁠
$69,000 for 2 & 3 East double occupancy room updates, physician lounge remodel, emergency department discharge room and cancer research remodels⁠
⁠
$66,000 for employee scholarships and trainings⁠
⁠
Thanks to generous donor support, we also successfully completed our $1M campaign to provide support to the Walden House and Davidson Family Hospitality Center and the Compassionate Care Patient Support Fund.
