Kootenai Clinic Family Medicine Coeur d'Alene Residency

As an affiliate of the UW Family Medicine Residency Network, we work with national leaders in family medicine, rural practice and primary care.

Kootenai Clinic Family Medicine Coeur d’Alene Residency combines a multitude of regional resources to train family physicians to meet the challenges of a growing rural community in the 21st century. We provide residents with the unique experience of practicing medicine in northern Idaho under the direction of an experienced and diverse faculty and dynamic curriculum. As an affiliate of the University of Washington Family Medicine Residency Network, Kootenai fully participates with national leaders in family medicine, rural practice and patient-centered primary care. Our faculty has the experience and skills necessary to train residents for rural medicine as well as inpatient and outpatient family practice. Their professionalism and first-hand experience make them ideal mentors for fostering and teaching compassionate patient care. Our practice-based environment creates a team approach to learning and allows open feedback to help to improve each individual and their teammates.

Congratulations to our Simulation Olympic gold medalists! 🥇🥇🥇🥇🏆

Today during didactics, our faculty held the annual Simulation Olympics which tested our residents’ knowledge, physical exam skills, and even charade abilities.

While it was a hard fight by all, congrats to Drs. Dizdarevic Miller, Yurkin, and Swart and student doctor Smith on their win!

(And extra kudos to Dr. Yurkin who is a two-time champion! Stay tuned next year to see if she’ll go for the three-peat)

Celebrated 🌲Earth Day🏕️last week by taking didactics outside! We were so lucky to be joined by Dr. Klaucke, a family medicine/wilderness medicine trained physician who taught us all the tips and tricks for stabilizing a patient with just the gear on our backs!

As summer approaches, we’re hoping everyone stays safe on their adventures! (But we’re prepared in case something goes awry!)

Thank you to the wonderful instructors and for hosting a fantastic day of fun and learning!

Our residents did a full day of Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (also known as ALSO 😉) last week. Here, we got to have hands-on practice for scenarios including shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, breech deliveries, maternal resuscitation, and vacuum/forcep- assisted deliveries!
