This spring, protect your spine and your swing.

Golf season is finally here, but before you step onto the course, ask yourself if your spine is ready for the swing. A golf swing puts repeated rotation and compression on your spine, and without proper preparation, it can quickly lead to pain or injury. Warming up before you play, focusing on good swing mechanics instead of raw power, and maintaining strong core muscles can all help protect your back and keep you playing longer. Most importantly, pain isn’t something to “play through” , it’s your body telling you something needs attention.

At Inland Northwest Spine, we specialize in diagnosing and treating spine conditions so you can stay active and enjoy the sports you love. Whether you’re dealing with stiffness, chronic back pain, or a recent injury, our team is here to help you move better and feel better this season.

Dr. Blaty at Inland Northwest Spine is a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) and is often ask how that differs from an MD.

Here’s the key:
MDs and DOs are both fully licensed physicians who complete medical school, residency, and often fellowship training, and can provide both surgical and non-surgical care.

What’s unique about a DO like Dr. Blaty?
DOs receive additional training in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM), focused on the musculoskeletal system.

This includes hands-on techniques and principles similar to:
• Physical therapy
• Chiropractic-style mechanics
• Therapeutic massage
• Guided stretching

More importantly, it builds a deep understanding of how the body’s structure, movement, and function work together, especially important in spine care.

That foundation helps Dr. Blaty take a comprehensive approach, creating personalized treatment plans focused on the whole person, not just the diagnosis.

At Inland Northwest Spine & Neurosurgery, the most important outcome is patient satisfaction and that doesn’t just mean surgery. It means collaboratively finding the best path for each patient. We spend the time needed to discuss all available options, and often that starts with non-surgical treatments like Physical Therapy.

Physical Therapy can help reduce pain, improve mobility, and strengthen the muscles that support your spine. We don’t rush to surgery, we explore every other option first, making sure the approach we choose is truly what’s best for you. When surgery is necessary, it’s only after careful consideration, ensuring the best possible outcome and recovery.

Call Inland Northwest Spine to see if Physical Therapy is the right step for you. (208)667-1376.

At Inland Northwest Spine, we know that a healthy spine starts from within. Did you know your diet can play a big role in spinal health? Just like you fuel your body for energy, the right foods can help keep your spine strong, flexible, and resilient. Here are some spine-loving foods to add to your plate:

𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗳𝘆 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝘀 – Spinach, kale, and Swiss chard are packed with calcium and antioxidants that help maintain strong bones and reduce inflammation.

𝗙𝗮𝘁𝘁𝘆 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵 – Salmon, mackerel, and sardines are rich in omega-3s, promoting joint health and protecting your spinal discs.

𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 – Blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries fight oxidative stress, which is linked to age-related spine degeneration.

𝗡𝘂𝘁𝘀 & 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 – Almonds, walnuts, and flaxseeds provide vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats to support overall wellness!

𝗬𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗿𝘁 – Calcium-rich yogurt helps maintain bone density, keeping your vertebrae strong. Greek yogurt also adds a protein boost!

𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰 – This golden spice contains curcumin, a natural anti-inflammatory that can help reduce back pain. Add it to soups, stews, or smoothies for extra flavor and benefits.

A healthy spine starts from within! By choosing nutrient-rich foods, you’re giving your back the care it deserves.

At Inland Northwest Spine, we know your spine works hard all day and quality sleep is how it recovers. Lying down relieves pressure, letting your vertebrae decompress and your discs rehydrate like sponges. Sleep also repairs muscles, ligaments, and tendons while reducing inflammation that can contribute to pain.

The right sleep setup matters. Supportive mattresses and pillows keep your spine aligned, and sleeping on your back with knee support or on your side with a pillow between your knees helps maintain natural posture. Avoid sleeping on your stomach, it strains your neck and back.

Prioritize your spine’s recovery and keep your back strong. Schedule an appointment with Inland Northwest Spine at (208) 667-1376. Your spine will thank you.

At Inland Northwest Spine, we know how important your spine is, it’s literally what keeps you upright, moving, and living an active life. Your spine supports your body, protects your spinal cord, and allows you to bend, twist, and move with ease.

Your spine is made up of 24 vertebrae, small bones stacked on top of each other that protect the spinal cord and bear your body’s weight. Between the vertebrae are discs, soft cushions that absorb pressure, and ligaments and tendons that hold everything together. The spine also has facet joints, which give the vertebrae flexibility to move against each other.

The spine has three main segments:

Cervical (neck) – 7 vertebrae
Thoracic (mid-back) – 12 vertebrae
Lumbar (lower back) – usually 5 vertebrae

Below the lumbar spine, the sacrum connects your spine to your pelvis, and the sacroiliac (SI) joints help absorb shock and provide stability. Every part of your spine plays a role in keeping you healthy and active.

If you’re experiencing back pain, stiffness, or discomfort, Inland Northwest Spine is here to help. Your spine deserves expert care, because when your spine is healthy, your whole body thrives!

We are incredibly grateful for our patients and honored each time someone shares their story. This testimonial is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do at Inland Northwest Spine every day.

Patient Testimonial:
“I have been a patient with Dr. Blaty for several years. I have struggled with lower back issues for more than 10 years. Finally took Dr’s advice and had a lumbar fusion. I cannot say enough positive things about a robotic fusion surgery. Scared to death to do it, but after much research decided to go forward with it. I’m so glad I did! It changed my life… It literally saved my life! I struggled for so many years not being active and not even leaving my house. Now, I feel like I’m living again! Thank you Dr. Blaty, you are the best!”
– Adrienne H.

Thank you, for trusting Dr. Blaty and the team at Inland Northwest Spine.

At Inland Northwest Spine, visiting a spine surgeon does not necessarily mean you're headed straight for surgery. In fact, most of our patients are initially offered non-surgical treatment options, such as spine injections, referrals to physical therapy or chiropractic care, and expert education on spine health. https://inlandnwspine.com/for-patients/faqs/
Our team carefully evaluates every case, discussing all available paths before considering surgical intervention. For more information about the options, give us a call at (208)667-1376.
