Kootenai Clinic Family Medicine Coeur d'Alene Residency

As an affiliate of the UW Family Medicine Residency Network, we work with national leaders in family medicine, rural practice and primary care.

Kootenai Clinic Family Medicine Coeur d’Alene Residency combines a multitude of regional resources to train family physicians to meet the challenges of a growing rural community in the 21st century. We provide residents with the unique experience of practicing medicine in northern Idaho under the direction of an experienced and diverse faculty and dynamic curriculum. As an affiliate of the University of Washington Family Medicine Residency Network, Kootenai fully participates with national leaders in family medicine, rural practice and patient-centered primary care. Our faculty has the experience and skills necessary to train residents for rural medicine as well as inpatient and outpatient family practice. Their professionalism and first-hand experience make them ideal mentors for fostering and teaching compassionate patient care. Our practice-based environment creates a team approach to learning and allows open feedback to help to improve each individual and their teammates.

☀️ When I’m not at work: In the rough or a bunker at the nearest golf course.

💚 Favorite thing about Coeur d’Alene: Being able to play golf at amazing courses in the morning and jump in a gorgeous lake in the afternoon.

🏥 Why I chose KH Residency: I felt at ease the minute I met all the welcoming people on my tour. Being able to live in a place like CDA while getting the well rounded rural training I’m looking for sealed the deal.

☀️ When I’m not at work: You’ll find me boat camping or fishing with my Husband, skiing on one of many mountains nearby, and reading a good book every moment in between.

💚 Favorite thing about Coeur d’Alene: I chose my undergrad for its strong sense of community, and I found that same feeling here. Being surrounded by beautiful places that fuel my soul has made it feel like home.

☀️Where can we find you when not at work: Powder chasing in the winter and ripping bikes in the summer

💚 Favorite thing about Coeur d’Alene: being able to ride my bike from my house to some great singletrack after work is pretty special. I’m looking forward to learning Schweitzer and some of the local backcountry this winter.

🏥 Why I chose KH Residency: Kootenai FM Residency really stood out in terms of providing very high quality, evidence based training with rural, full scope focus. The size of CDA and Kootenai health allows for a great unopposed program where you learn full spectrum family medicine while also having access and learning from a myriad of specialists.

Congratulations to our very own Dr. Kendall for matching into a Hospice & Palliative Medicine Fellowship!

This experience will allow for specialist training in guiding serious illness and end-of-life conversations, managing chronic pain and neuropsychiatric comorbidities in patients with advanced illness, and overall relieving suffering/maintaining dignity as patients and loved ones navigate difficult decisions.

💚 Favorite thing about Coeur d’ Alene: it’s a tie between how nice and welcoming everyone has been to me having moved from halfway across the country, and how great the outdoor activities are (lake, forest, mountains) very close by

🏥 Why I chose KH Residency: I would like to practice in a rural community in the future so I wanted to join a program that had a clear mission and track record of producing rural FM physicians. I also liked that the program was located in a neat place and was run by faculty and residents that I thought I would get along with, and so far that has 100% been the case!
