Austin Noel Birth Doula Services, LLC

Austin Noel Birth Doula Services, LLC My family moved to Central Minnesota in 2020 after having our roots settled in West Des Moines, Iowa for the previous 10 years.

A birth doula is an individual who is trained to provide continuous emotional, physical and informational support for parents and other support people before, during and after birth. ___________________________________
I enjoy a delicious cup of coffee, watching documentaries and The Amazing Race, volunteering, a good view outside a window, quiet mornings and opening our home to friends and strang

ers. Before our move across the boarder, we had multiplied to 3 elementary aged kids and a dog. I love my witty husband, witnessing my children learn about this world and getting to teach them about it. As a doula, my pursuit has been rooted in helping women and their support people know their options, approach birth more confidently, reduce the sensation of fear surrounding birth, and have an overall positive perception of their experience even if things don’t go how they originally desired. As much as possible, I aim to assist in helping clients understand their choices before and during their birth. Then, when their birthing time arrives, my goal is to be a presence of affirmation and a source of physical support throughout the process. I am certified as a Birth Doula through DONA International, as a Bereavement Doula through StillBirthday University and have also received mulitpile trainings from Spinning Babies. I gained valuable experience during my first three and a half years of birthwork with the Iowa Doula Agency and have also been a part of the Central Iowa Doula Association (CIDA) for the entirety of my time as Doula in the Des Moines metro. In addition, I was previously employed as a Maternity Center tour guide through the Birth Education Department at one of the Des Moines metro hospitals, an opportunity that allowed me to interface thoroughly with birth staff and bring education to numerous expecting parents from an early point in my career. As your birth doula, I will inform you of your options, encourage you to explore them and make your own educated choices. I am NOT a medical professional and will encourage you to be in communication with your health care provider about your options. As your doula, we will schedule 2-3 meetings where we discuss your preferences for labor and delivery, anxieties, excitements, comfort measures, breastfeeding, what to expect postpartum. I will be a continuous support for you and your birth team throughout your labor, delivery and approximately 2 hours after your baby is born. We will also schedule a postpartum visit where I can follow up with you shortly after your birth. For parents who are looking for a doula who holds Christian values, I would love to support you in this specific way. For my family, our Christian faith affects every area of our life and I come from a place of understanding if that is the same for you. If you would like more information about hiring me as your birth doula, please email me at AustinNoelDoula@gmail.com.

It’s January 1 and so the time to officially share that I have been tapping the breaks on my birth work and no longer taking clients. What is suitable for one season isn’t always suitable for the next. I’m beyond grateful to have been regularly serving parents for the past 9 years and don’t imagine ever being done. Since moving to MN, birth work has looked very different for me, including different means of offering support. From this I have learned that, for me, my greatest service is being able to be right there with a family in their birth space. Labor support is just what I do. I’ve learned so much from every birth I’ve attended and have evolved over my years of experience. ALWAYS I am astounded by the power and process that is bringing a life to their first breath. I’ve seen the physical and mental strength of a woman and her partner move through so many various types of births, sometimes learning how to move forward in uncertainty and yet confidence through selecting the *option* that fits them in the moment. Because, as I emphasize with my clients, seeking your options - KNOWING you have options - often makes your experience, helps you own your decisions and be an active participant in your birth.

I’m so grateful for the start I was given in my early years, surrounded closely by so many wise and experienced Des Moines women. Beginning with countless maternity center tours given at Methodist downtown, so many CIDA meetings and evenings with my gals at Iowa Doula Agency. And then my backup group I was privileged to partner with. They all helped me develop confidently into what I’ve grown to offer families over time.

I sign off with a quote I refer to often:
“Instead of my midwives and my husband treating me as a damsel in distress or a medical case to be managed, they treated me as a strong deliverer of life, a valorous woman.” from Holy Labor by Aubry J. Smith

⭐️ If you are a previous client, fellow doula or an expectant friend looking to work with me, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I would love to create room for you. For anyone else even just curious and with questions about doula support, use my website as a tool for information.

☀️🤰🏼New Bookends 👶🏼🌙

I think of my years as a doula in Des Moines fondly, filthy rich of memories meeting with families and attending births all across the metro and surrounding area. There are particular images unique to Dsm that will always be imprinted in my mind…like the memorable Mercy Hospital window view with the capitol building, one of the I-235 bridges and the city slowly waking up with the sunrise (one way or another I managed to be there during plenty of sunrises) - is there a Dsm doula that can’t relate? I almost tear up knowing it’s just a memory I won’t relive, as walking through that entrance (or any of those familiar entrances) is not a thing I’ll do again. New families. New hospitals. New highways. New views. New morning and evening bookend scenes. New has been the ongoing theme of the last two years on this front and the navigation is constantly changing.

The baby in this photo turned three last month. He had three siblings yet to meet at home and his mom and I did not know we each took a photo out the window to bookend the day. The capitol building - the sunrise - the cars on 235 waking up and going to sleep - this mother and her body ready to move through the power of bringing a little life into the world - the baby that began the day inside another body and then ended it completely independent of the life supply he always had 🤯 ☀️ 🌙

And if one person reads this far…woah.

I always tell expecting parents, “to move the baby, you gotta move the mom.” Of course we see instances all the time where babies are born with very little strategic effort regarding progress. But when we encounter resistance, there are solutions that can make all the difference.

What surprising or favorite feature did your baby come with when they were born? Share in the comments ☺️ Just over 10 years ago I gave birth to my son who seemed to have just left the salon. A nice neat cut with frosted blonde tips. My other son has a sweet birthmark that extends from the front of his knee to his lower back. Newborn babies are so fascinating!

I once created this graphic to help my clients remember to envision a turtleneck as their baby’s head gradually opens the cervix… I laugh every time I come across it.

Though I began pausing summer births years ago with the exception of repeat clients, this summer has been a pause on many things. With the new rhythm of 3 kids home every day + 1 baby and a booked up family summer, work has been relatively quiet for me especially on the social networks - which has become intentional but for the exchange of a lot of noise…which includes starting our days with lots of living room dance parties. See you in September, Instagram. ☺️ ☀️ ⛺️ ⛺️ ⛺️ 🔥 🏝 🍦 ⚾️ 💦 🩱 🌺 🌭 👶🏼 🚲 🎣 ☀️ 🍉 🥵 🎶 🪩 💃
