I hear this SO often. If this is you: first of all, I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. You are NOT alone!
There are several reasons why it can be uncomfortable, painful or “feels off”:
-muscle tension: the pelvic floor muscles need to be able to both contract and relax. If they are only tight this can make s*x uncomfortable as well as more difficult to achieve the big “O.”
-pelvic organ prolapse: if a prolapse is present, the organ can get in the way of pe*******on and may be uncomfortable. This may be more noticeable in some positions more than others.
-scar adhesions: if you’ve had a vaginal delivery and experienced tearing (laceration) this tissue can become tight. The scar tissue doesn’t stretch as well and therefore can interfere with comfortable pe*******on.
-vaginal dryness: this can boil down to needing lubrication or possibly prescription vaginal estrogen (speak to your primary care provider to see if vaginal estrogen is a good fit for you).
-endometriosis: one of the cardinal signs of endometriosis can be painful s*x (along with painful periods). Sometimes this can be the endometriosis itself, muscle tension or an upregulated nervous system.
-upregulated nervous system: being in “fight or flight” mode can make it difficult for muscles to relax. It can also create a barrier for us ladies who need to zone in before achieving the big “O.”
If any of these resonate with you, there is a SOLUTION FOR ALL! I’ve worked with plenty of women who have been able to enjoy s*x again and I would love to help you get there, too. Ready to schedule? Message me or visit www.empowerhealth-ks.com to request an appointment.
