The truth is, our bodies aren’t calculators. Calories in vs. calories out oversimplifies a very complex system.
👉 Macros matter.

💡 3 Things Every Woman Should Know About Metabolism 💡

1️⃣ It’s more than calories. Metabolism isn’t just how fast you burn energy—it’s every process that keeps your body running. Hormones like estrogen + progesterone shift metabolism throughout your cycle, pregnancy, and menopause.

2️⃣ Muscle = metabolic gold. Muscle tissue burns more energy than fat, even at rest. Women naturally lose muscle with age, which can slow metabolism—but strength training + protein help protect it.

3️⃣ Metabolic health ≠ weight. You can be a “healthy weight” and still have blood sugar swings, high cholesterol, or hormonal imbalances. True metabolic health means stable energy, hormones, and reduced risk of chronic disease.

Stop trying to “save” calories by eating small meals in the beginning part of the day! It’s not working! I can’t tell you how many clients consume a less than 200 calorie breakfast or no breakfast at all and then consume 1800 calories between the hours of 4pm and 10pm 🤦🏻‍♀️

Eat breakfast. Two eggs is not enough food (or protein)! Aim for 30g, this can be done by adding an additional egg, 2 slices of whole wheat toast with some peanut butter. Breakfast is a great place to utilize Greek yogurt, cottage cheese and or protein powders to meet protein needs.

Don’t be afraid to snack. When you go hours without eating you’re more likely to over eat at the next meal.

Snacking throughout the day or making your meals larger in the beginning part of the day will prevent you from eating your entire house when you get home from work.

Here are 5 sneaky reasons why weight gain can still happen — even with “good” food choices:

1️⃣ Portion control – Yes, avocado and nut butter are healthy, but calories still count.
2️⃣ Liquid calories – Coffee drinks, smoothies, cocktails… they add up fast.
3️⃣ Stress – High cortisol can make your body hold onto weight.
4️⃣ Hormonal shifts – Things like thyroid changes can slow metabolism.
5️⃣ Low daily movement – Sedentary jobs = fewer calories burned. Exercise matters!

In honor of ..... allow me to reintroduce myself and my new brand look

Hi! I'm Aurora, registered dietitian and owner of Nourish RD. Since 2021, I have been working in nursing homes and currently oversee nursing home dietitians! Don't you worry I still have plenty of time to provide one on one nutrition counseling and medical nutrition therapy.

I created Nourish RD as a way to provide accessible nutrition care both in person and virtually. I love women's health but am well versed in most chronic illness management.

Most of my clients will vouch that my approach is nonjudgmental and digestible (pun intended).
