I think that Covid-19 and social distancing are teaching some interesting lessons in our fast paced 24/7 society. We're being forced to pause and consider what's most important in our lives. And, not surprisingly, it's our loved ones. For the majority of us the worry is not so much for ourselves, but for those that we love and think may be vulnerable to the virus. We're also learning self discipline because we're being made to understand that reckless actions may jeopardize the lives of others. In other words we're being called upon to act like responsible adults.
I have a feeling that, as we come through the other side of this, our country, and perhaps the world will never be the same. Just as I can't- yet- wrap my head around the estimated numbers of people who may die from this pandemic, I'm also trying to understand what will be the consequences to the economy as the result of spending several trillion dollars, and counting; or having unemployment exceed 20 or 30 percent.
I think that unfortunately many of us are in for unimaginable pain and suffering if we think that we will go back to life as usual after this world wide crisis. I was born during the last depression,so I don't remember it, but I can recall my mother and grandmother telling me about the hardship. The last economic depression changed lives and behaviors for a lifetime.
