Comanche County EMS was invited to speak in Protection today at the monthly meeting for Mother’s Club. Terri and Susan went over general information about our EMS service and some of our new equipment. We also answered questions from the women about various topics. I think we all had a good time!!

Tim Ewy has served as an EMT in Comanche county for 45 years. To celebrate this significant milestone, we would like to share an interview with him, where he offers some valuable insights. We extend our gratitude to Sierra Denney for taking the time to conduct the interview.

In recent months, there has been some confusion about how Comanche County EMS staff and volunteers are compensated. I would like to clarify this.

We have two full-time staff members, Susan Vaught and myself. We receive a salary to manage EMS calls, handle office work, maintain the ambulances, inventory, etc., during office hours, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. We do not receive additional pay for EMS calls during these hours. After office hours, we serve as volunteer staff and are compensated the same as our other volunteers.

Currently, we have 16 volunteers who cover EMS calls on nights, weekends, and holidays. The volunteers are paid $3.00 per hour for nights, $4.50 per hour for weekends, and $6.00 per hour for holidays. They are required to be in Comanche County and available to respond to calls during their shifts.

Volunteers are compensated when they respond to a call, and the pay is based on their certification level. There are four levels of EMS certification: EMR, EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic/RN. As the certification level increases, so do the corresponding responsibilities and education. Here is the pay structure for each certification level when responding to an EMS call:
- EMR: $10.50 per hour
- EMT: $11.50 per hour
- AEMT: $12.50 per hour
- Paramedic/RN: $16.00 per hour
I hope this clears up any confusion. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

A new addition has been implemented at the EMS station to enhance training capabilities. We will be employing it for CPR training with Road & Bridge and an EMS meeting this week, the new EMT class commencing in a few weeks and multiple other classes in the future. Appreciation is extended to my husband Ronny Brosius for installing it for me over the weekend.
