What a perfect day for our Brookdale College Place picnic at Pioneer Park! Our residents had the most wonderful time soaking up the sunshine and watching these friendly ducks waddle right up to visit. There’s nothing quite like being outdoors, feeling the warmth on your skin, and sharing smiles with both friends and feathered neighbors. These are the moments that fill our hearts! 🦆💚

What a wonderful Independence Day celebration at Brookdale College Place! Our residents had a blast decorating patriotic cookies, singing favorite songs, and enjoying a delicious barbecue together. A special thanks to our sweet veteran Jim for sharing his amazing watermelon with everyone - it was the perfect treat for the holiday! Nothing beats celebrating America with good food, great friends, and grateful hearts. Happy 4th of July! 🍉❤️

What a wonderful afternoon we had with residents' flower arranging! 🌸

Our residents had such a blast creating these beautiful arrangements - the smiles and creativity in the room were absolutely infectious.

There’s something so therapeutic and joyful about working with fresh flowers, and everyone left with gorgeous bouquets to brighten their rooms.

This was such a delightful activity! We’re already looking forward to the session next quarter. 🌺

What a beautiful Tuesday we had at our weekly sing-along! There’s something truly special about voices coming together in harmony, sharing favorite songs and creating joyful moments.

Last week was extra meaningful when family members joined us - seeing the smiles, hearing the laughter, and watching different generations connect through music reminded us why these gatherings are so precious.

Music has this wonderful way of bringing people together and lifting spirits. We are looking forward to many more Tuesdays filled with song!

What a pawsome day at Brookdale College Place! 🐾

We were thrilled to welcome the amazing Go Team Therapy Dogs for a special visit with our residents! Watching faces light up as residents petted, hugged, and shared stories with these gentle four-legged ambassadors was absolutely heartwarming.

These therapy dog visits provide such meaningful comfort and joy. The unconditional love and companionship these specially trained dogs offer reminds us all of the incredible healing power of the human-animal bond.

Thank you to the Go Team Therapy Dogs and their dedicated handlers for bringing smiles, laughter, and precious moments of connection to our Brookdale family. We can’t wait for your next visit!

Baking with Tammy - Mini Pie Edition! 🥧

What a wonderful day in the kitchen! Today, we created delicious mini pies featuring blueberry, lemon blueberry, apricot, and apple varieties. The kitchen was filled with amazing aromas and even better conversation as we rolled, filled, and baked together.

Special shoutout to Joan, pictured here with her beautiful creation! Her smile says it all - there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of making something delicious from scratch.

These mini pies turned out absolutely perfect, and we had such a great time sharing stories and techniques while we baked. Days like these remind us why we love bringing people together through food!

In 1917, a young American woman served as one of the Salvation Army’s “Donut Lassies” at Camp Cody, New Mexico, frying fresh donuts for thousands of soldiers training for the Great War. Day after day, she heard the most beautiful piano music drifting across the dusty camp — something classical and haunting that seemed impossibly out of place in this military outpost. Finally, curiosity led her to follow the sound past rows of canvas tents until she discovered a young soldier with gentle hands making magic on an old upright piano.

What followed was a wartime courtship conducted in stolen moments between her donut duties and his training. They talked about dreams, hopes and their shared love of music and laughter. Donuts had brought her to the music that led her to love.

They wed after the war, and in 1928 their daughter Jeanie was born. Jeanie now lives at Brookdale College Place and credits her very existence to donuts! As we celebrate National Donut Day, we remember that sometimes life’s sweetest gifts come from following the music that calls to our hearts—even across a dusty army camp in New Mexico.

Monday, May 26th, at Brookdale College Place, we gathered to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Their courage and dedication will never be forgotten.

We were grateful to come together as a community, sharing stories, memories, and a wonderful BBQ lunch while reflecting on the true meaning of this important day. Thank you to all our residents, families and staff who joined us in paying tribute to our fallen heroes.

We remember. We honor. We are forever grateful.
