Update: Jared Clapp is doing well we are 2 months post transplant. Still traveling about 2 hours 1-2x a week for doctors appointments. Sorry we haven’t updated in a while I have been busy working as much as possible to make ends meet and jared has been raising our 4 kiddos. We could still use some financial help if anyone is able. I am back to work but I don’t make enough to pay all the bills and now the medical bills are coming in. We are in the process of getting jared on disability but it is taking some time. Thank you to everyone who has prayed for us and has donated. We appreciate it.

Jared is doing well, he had a heart cath done today this is a routine procedure done weekly for about a month after a transplant to make sure he isn’t rejecting the heart. Keep praying for Jared and my mental health through the rest of this. Also if anyone is able to financially help that would be amazing and thank you to those that already have. God truly has been amazing throughout all of this.

Jared was more awake today and speaking!!! He is still working on using the correct words for what he means but is doing much better than yesterday. He was able to get the chest tubes and a line out of his neck. He is very tired and weak, but working with therapy to gain strength back. Keep praying for Jared’s strength and mental health he is struggling with the fact that someone died for him to live.

The vent is out and Jared is breathing on his own. His head CT showed no change (this was a risk with surgery) he is moving all of his body but still isn’t speaking. This could be due to sedation meds still in his system or trauma from the vent. Doctor doesn’t seem worried and said to give it time.

02/25/2023

Jared went to surgery yesterday morning at 11am but they didn’t start until 1:30pm. He didn’t get out of surgery until 12am. They had a hard time getting him off of the bypass machine so they ended up putting him on ecmo again and leaving his chest open. throughout the night they worked on lowering the ecmo and he tolerated that very well. This morning he was on the lowest support and they decided to stop ecmo and close him up. He is doing well, still on the vent and heavily sedated. Plan is to start weaning vent tomorrow.

Jared is tentatively on the schedule for 1pm we were told this time will most likely change but as of now that is the plan.

Jared is being put on the transplant list as we speak. Insurance gave the go ahead. Now the prayer is he remains stable while waiting for a new heart. The team is hoping to transplant by this weekend but that is obviously dependent on a heart becoming available that matches for Jared.

We need prayer for wisdom to make the best decision for Jared. The team wants us to make a decision in the morning about either replacing the LVAD or waiting for a heart. Either option is extremely risky and each comes with lots of variables.

Ok so just talked to transplant nurse manager and financial person. Since today is a holiday they will be reach out to insurance tomorrow to get approval for a heart transplant. Once approved he will be put on the transplant list. They said he is considered a level one (highest priority) and will most likely get a heart within a week.
