When Merry came onto Bluebonnet’s service last month, she was facing a devastating diagnosis of brain cancer. She was bedbound with weakness, confusion, agitation, and had severe pain requiring around-the-clock medication. She struggled to eat, could not always speak clearly, and at times did not recognize her loved ones.
Through it all, her family stayed by her side — praying, believing, and hoping.
Over time, something remarkable began to happen. Merry slowly became more alert. She wanted to sit up again. She began engaging with those around her.
Yesterday, Bluebonnet physical therapist Dustin Kelm visited to help the family learn how to safely transfer her. With his guidance and support, Merry sat up and spent meaningful time with her family.
Even more incredible — she went over eight hours without pain, was clear and engaged, and showed her bright personality again. Merry spent the day praising God and celebrating the progress she has made.
Moments like these remind us why compassionate care matters. Healing can look different for every patient, but hope, dignity, and meaningful moments are always possible.
We are honored to walk alongside patients and families like Merry’s every day.
