Great info on Multiple Sclerosis:

A disease in which the immune system eats away at the protective covering of nerves.

In MS, resulting nerve damage disrupts communication between the brain and the body.

Multiple sclerosis causes many different symptoms, including vision loss, pain, fatigue, and impaired coordination. The symptoms, severity, and duration can vary from person to person. Some people may be symptom free most of their lives, while others can have severe chronic symptoms that never go away.

Physical therapy and medications that suppress the immune system can help the symptoms and SLOW disease progression.

Each one of us has our own story depending on the chronic illness and the group of symptoms that cause our obstacles and adjustments.

For some of us it is hard to develop new expectations of ourselves in a life where we usually have had different dreams and plans.

Giving ourselves permission to grieve may be difficult but it’s necessary. Staying in the grief, however, won’t allow us to adjust your dreams and plans and look to the positive. You are important and have a purpose no matter what your limitations. ☀️

Feeling anxious or depressed are symptoms of most any chronic illness. It’s hard not to feel ashamed or to want to hide these symptoms from others.

Remember: there is only so much we can control when our bodies are battling against illness.

So, do the things you can do to help your symptoms, talk about your symptoms with those you feel safe and comfortable with, and release yourself from blame.

Research supports a long list of health benefits of GRATITUDE, including better sleep quality, improved heart health, lower levels of depression in people living with chronic illness, and lower levels of hemoglobin A1C, a biomarker involved in blood sugar control that’s used to diagnose diabetes.

TIPS:
1. Don’t get out of bed before speaking words of gratitude about your day.

2. When someone asks you how you are feeling, start with something positive first. ”I’m learning to celebrate my small victories, such as…”

3. Consider what you are putting in your mind. Positive daily devotionals, music, comedy, phone calls with uplifting friends. Limit the negative.

Autoimmune disease is mostly silent depending on the disease and it’s level of progression. There is much going on inside the body that others can’t see. Denial of what is happening by ourselves and others is common. Advocating for yourself is necessary.
