Where and when did you serve?
1988-1992: United States Air Force Academy, CO / 1992-1994; McGuire Air Force Base, NJ / 1994-1997: Wright-Patterson AFB, OH
What does being a Veteran mean to you personally?
Being a veteran to me means the honor of having been able to have served for the greatest country in the world where we have the ability to live in a free country, respecting all those who continue to serve, have served, and those who have given the ultimate sacrifice along with the freedoms we have should not be taken for granted. Having a Father and 3 of 4 Grandparents who served along with multiple Air Force Academy classmates who have given the ultimate sacrifice, being a veteran is deeply personal.
How has your experience in service shaped the way you approach your work at Jefferson?
As an officer, you learn while you are the leader everyone looks to for decision making, your enlisted team has tremendous experience and value – valuing that feedback, setting clear expectations and accountability, as well as having mutual respect is key to successful outcomes. I apply that same mindset in healthcare which truly emulates the same setting of being a team sport where everyone plays a role in a successful patient outcome from the frontline providers to the behind-the-scenes staff – each and every person is key in a successful team approach. We are blessed organizationally to have incredibly talented fellow veterans applying this same military experience and ethos throughout Jefferson.
