Women make up about 67% of the healthcare workforce in the United States, shaping the future of patient care every day.

This Women’s History Month, we’re proud to spotlight the women behind the vision who help make Azure the welcoming practice it is for our team and our patients.

Earlier this month, we shared how macular degeneration can affect central vision — but what does that actually look like?

One of the early signs of AMD is distortion — straight lines may appear wavy, blurred, or even missing in your central vision.

An Amsler grid is a simple tool that can help detect subtle changes early. To use it:

• Hold the image about 12 inches from your face
• Wear your reading glasses if you normally use them
• Cover one eye at a time
• Focus on the center dot
• Notice if any lines appear wavy, distorted, blurred, or missing

If you notice new distortion, dark spots, or increasing difficulty recognizing faces, it’s important to schedule a comprehensive eye exam.

Early detection truly makes a difference.

If you’ve noticed changes in your vision, our team at Azure Eye Center is here to help.

What you can’t see matters.

February is Macular Degeneration Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about age-related macular degeneration (AMD) — a leading cause of central vision loss.

AMD can affect everyday moments like reading, recognizing faces, or enjoying time with loved ones. In many cases, changes in vision happen gradually and may not be noticeable at first.

That’s why regular comprehensive eye exams are so important. Early detection and ongoing monitoring play a key role in protecting long-term vision.

If it’s been a while since your last eye exam, this is a good reminder to schedule one.

Protect Your Cornea, Protect Your Vision!

The cornea—the clear, dome‑shaped surface at the front of your eye—acts like a window, bending light onto the retina to give you crisp vision. When this delicate tissue stays clear and smooth, you see the world in vivid detail; but conditions like keratoconus, pterygium or Fuchs’ dystrophy can cause blurred vision, redness or discomfort. Early diagnosis and treatment can preserve your eyesight and improve comfort.
