It’s been a rougher week than normal for Memphis but here is still so much beauty and good to live for…like this sweet girl we got to see yesterday! Just being with her and watching how she has overcome so many obstacles in her 2 short years on earth, reminds us of our “why”!

Every single person has a deep motivation that fuels their life in the grand scheme of things. If you keep questioning why you do the things you do, you will eventually find your own personal "Why" in life. What is your why?

In order to find your personal "Why" in life, you really have to take a shovel and dig deep down in your conscious mind. Why find your why? Because you're more likely to be happier when you live a life that's aligned with your purpose in life.

Don’t know where to start? Here’s a suggestion….be the light for someone else. It’s amazing what happens when we step outside of ourselves and help other people. Remember this: To the world, you’re just one person. But to one person, you could be the world.

Keep shining, be the light, find your why, help others, and look for the amazing gifts in this world!

Anyone else tired of worrying? 🙋‍♀️With all the recent events (especially in Memphis) it is hard not to. It’s natural to worry, to feel out of control or wonder what’s going to happen; we’ve all been there and ARE there but remember, do NOT let anything or anyone dim your ✨spark or put out your 🕯light. Stay positive ➕❤️💪🏻

Good is rooted in love, and evil is rooted in fear. Evil wants us to think we’re alone. But when good people band together to fight for what’s right, good will triumph...

As Edmund Burke stated the only thing necessary for evil to triumph over good is for those who stand for good to not take a stand at all. So let’s stand together. Let’s channel our good into making changes. Let’s be the love that this world needs. Let’s reignite our spark!🔥

Worry is a motivating emotion, trying to get you to act. Channel it into making changes, but don’t let it take over your life

Have you ever wondered WHAT IS FIBER?? We are here to tell you! Fiber is actually a carbohydrate you get from eating 🍎fruits, 🥦veggies, 🌾grains, and other 🌱plants. Even though your body can not digest fiber, it’s still an essential part of a nutritious diet.

Fiber is split into two broad categories based on its water solubility:
1️⃣Soluble fiber: dissolves in water and can be metabolized by the “good” bacteria in the gut
2️⃣Insoluble fiber: does not dissolve in water

Did you know that eating fiber can potentially:
💩Help you have normal, easy-to-pass bowel movements
❤️Lower your risk of colon cancer, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease
🦠Lower your risk of diverticulitis
🚽Lower your risk of hemorrhoids
🩸Help control your blood sugar and cholesterol levels
⚖️Help you lose or maintain a healthy weight
💪🏻Boost your immune system
🧬Nourish a healthy gut microbiome

Speaking of gut health, did you know that without fiber, probiotics cannot live. Essentially indigestible fibers (i.e. prebiotics) are the food the helps probiotic bacteria thrive in our gut.

This is why a diet rich in high-fiber foods like sprouted chia seeds, sprouted flaxseeds and sprouted h**p seeds is so important. If you have severe leaky gut, however, you may need to start out getting your fiber from steamed vegetables and fruit if your gut is extremely sensitive. If you gut isn’t overly sensitive, aim for 30–40 grams of fiber daily.

Eating fiber doesn’t have to be a chore. There are many inexpensive, healthy, and tasty ways to get more fiber — it’s all about finding the foods that appeal to you.

So NOW you know that increasing your fiber is worth it.

How much do you really know about the ingredients inside your makeup?💄We assume since most people aren’t aware of the food they put in their body, they sure aren’t aware of the ingredients in their makeup. Did you know, women, in general, put over 150 chemicals on their face everyday.🤦🏻‍♀️

It’s important to understand that nontoxic doesn’t always mean natural, as there are many natural compounds that can be toxic to humans at certain levels. What makes an ingredient truly toxic is how deeply it’s absorbed through the skin. While some products don’t make it through the epidermis (the skin’s first layer), other ingredients absorb fairly quickly through all layers of skin and into the bloodstream. The eyes, skin, and lips are vulnerable to absorption of the toxic chemicals through thin mucus membranes close to the mouth and tear ducts.

Toxic makeup ingredients aren’t just harmful to the skin. They can have an impact internally too. The most widely reported impacts of toxic makeup are the development of cancers, hormonal imbalances, and fertility issues, asthma, eczema, or dermatitis. Since 2009, 595 cosmetics manufacturers have reported using 88 chemicals, in more than 73,000 products 😳

Flip over your mascara or lipstick and see what ingredients they contain especially:

* Formaldehyde, a known carcinogen.
* Paraformaldehyde, a type of formaldehyde.
* Methylene glycol, a type of formaldehyde.
* Quaternium 15, which releases formaldehyde.
* Mercury, which can damage the kidneys and nervous system.
* Dibutyl and diethylhexyl phthalates, which disrupt hormones and damage the reproductive system.
* Isobutyl and isopropyl parabens, which disrupt hormones and harm the reproductive system.
* The long-chain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances known as PFAS, which have been linked to cancer.
* M- and o-phenylenediamine, used in hair dyes, which irritate and sensitize the skin, damage DNA and can cause cancer.

The makeup industry will not make it a priority to make us aware of what goes into their products. But we should. Do your own research, switch to safer ingredients for a healthy skin and body.

We’ve said this before but it’s worth repeating and everyone, including us, needs to be reminded.

Think about an orange tree 🍊🌳. For an orange tree to grow from seed and bear fruit, it could take up to fifteen years. But the tree itself is so beautiful, you might begin to delight in the leaves before the oranges even appear. Beautiful things take time. This is true for so many things….including your health!!! 🩺

Progress goes beyond what is easily noticeable or seen. You will grow and change, too, we promise!

As human beings we face all sorts of obstacles, most times those obstacles are simple to solve. In fact the solution is there, right under our feet, the thing is... it takes time and commitment. For example, you want to lose weight, no problem! Just eat well and exercise your body, right? Well, that seems pretty obvious, but why do we get discouraged and eventually don't lose weight? Because we are waiting for immediate results! We do what we have to do, to reach our goal, for about... let's say a week, a month, or even a year or so, and then, we don't see the results, so we give up!

If you want to follow the philosophy posted and achieve big results by committing to a little progress each day, you have to become your best version. Despite the fact that the progress that's required for you to make is little, you have to prioritize and be fully engaged in what you do.

Beautiful things, like the orange tree, take time. This is true for so many things. Progress goes beyond what is easily noticeable or seen. Everything is possible to those who believe and put in the effort. You can accomplish anything, just remember that success doesn’t happen overnight. Success is the result of hard work and dedication on a consistent basis.

As sure as the tree bears fruit, stay in the light and be patient. You will grow and change, too.

We perform routine Pap smears at our clinic as they are the most effective screening tool for cervical cancer. However, we get at least 1-2 patients a week tell us their Pap smear is up to date (with normal results) when they have had a full/total hysterectomy that was not due to cervical cancer!

A partial hysterectomy is a hysterectomy that removes the uterus and not the cervix. A total hysterectomy is a hysterectomy that removes the uterus and the cervix.

So, if the sole purpose of a pap smear is to screen for cervical cancer, it stands to reason that if you don’t have a cervix, there is no reason to perform cervical screening. Yes, individual circumstances definitely exist but the point here is that woman, in general, are not questioning WHY anything is being done!

For instance, we had a 66 year old female last week who had a totally hysterectomy (not due to cervical cancer) 8 years ago tell us she gets a Pap smear every year with her OB/GYN and the results have always been normal.

The ACOG (the professional association of physicians specializing in obstetrics and gynecology in the United States) agrees that women can stop routine Pap test screening after age 65 — whether you've had a hysterectomy or not — if you have a history of regular screenings with normal results and if you're not at high risk of cervical cancer. So again, why are they being done?

Don’t misread the above information. If you have had a PARTIAL hysterectomy — when the uterus is removed but the lower end of the uterus (cervix) remains — you will will still need to continue getting Pap smears plus women still need breast and vaginal exams. What we are encouraging is patients ask questions to their health care provider about what is being done and why?!?
