There have been many conversations lately about diversity equity, and inclusion, also known as D.E.I. Are you aware that DEI also includes those of us in the disability community? Sometimes the DEI acronym adds an A on the end to include accessibility. I have lived my entire life at the intersection of being Black and disabled. Today, as a 43-year-old, I am still often overlooked in certain situations, even with a Masters Degree in psychology I was overlooked for jobs. I sometimes have to question if certain things happen to me because I am Black? Because I am disabled? Or a mixture of the two. (I will share more in the comments). As the mission of OurView states, I will always try to approach everything as an opportunity to educate.

Marissa Bode, the first wheelchair user to play Nessarose in Wicked, posted a TikTok video revealing that she’s been actively deleting comments from people joking about pushing Nessa out of her wheelchair and saying that the character “deserves” her disability.

Bode began her statement by saying that she understands why some people don’t like Nessa and clarifying that jokes about Nessarose’s personality and her fate are funny because they are based on fiction. However, Bode draws the line at jokes about her character’s disability.

Today is . Your is an incredibly important component of your overall health. Access to mental health services is a critical issue throughout the lifespan for children with Spina Bifida and their parents and other family members. Mental health is a universal human right. 1 in 5 adults in America will experience a mental illness. Half of all such start by age 14 years but most are undetected and untreated. Together we can end the stigma.
