A new case series study published in the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine by Gunadhar Panigrahi, MD, FACC, DipABLM, in collaboration with the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, demonstrates the feasibility of achieving type 2 diabetes remission simply by eating healthy food without severe calorie restriction or liquid meal replacements.

A total of 59 patients with type 2 diabetes and enrolled in a cardiac wellness program achieved significant improvements in blood glucose control, and in 37% of cases full remission of their diabetes, after being treated with a low-fat, whole-food, plant-predominant dietary pattern.

Many of these patients were educated on the merits of diet and lifestyle change as part of their routine care in the wellness program, highlighting the importance of providing all patients the opportunity for lifestyle behavior change to treat type 2 diabetes.

In fact, poor diet is responsible for almost 700,000 deaths in the US each year, and 11 million worldwide! And the average American consumes 55 pounds of added sugar each year, which we know is a major contributor to the diabesity epidemic. ⁣

The good news is that each step towards real, wholesome, delicious foods reduces your risk for chronic disease and increases your ability to feel great.⁣

A few simple ways to eat healthy are:⁣

Make sure your plate is 75% vegetables.⁣
Eat an array of colorful veggies.⁣
Include healthy fats in every meal.⁣
Make sure to optimize protein.⁣
Eat a low glycemic diet.⁣
Avoid conventional dairy.⁣
Reduce or cut out processed foods. ⁣

Changing your thoughts is the key to a fresh start in any area—a hobby, a career, a relationship, marriage, or parenting.

Ephesians 4:23 says, "Be continually renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh, untarnished mental and spiritual attitude]" (AMP).

What is a renewed mind? It means you have fresh thoughts and fresh attitudes.

It means you take your wrong attitudes and thoughts and surrender them, letting “God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God—what is good and is pleasing to him and is perfect” (Romans 12:2 GNT).

What are your favorite ways to play?

Getting into great shape doesn’t mean hours at the gym, plodding along on elliptical machines or suffering through classes led by punishing drill-sergeant instructors.

I personally love to play by finding different things that keep me fit. I encourage you to explore all the fun things you may enjoy.

The power of play is a surprising but essential part of wellness and something we often lose more of with each passing year. When we embrace childlike wonder and let ourselves be whimsical we can feel lighter, more energized, and more inspired.
