Last week, our department put our new Incident Command Board to great use during a structure fire. This valuable tool was made possible through a generous grant from Eversource and a donation from the Canton Lions Club.
The command board is an essential piece of equipment used during major incidents to maintain crew accountability, track resources, and record key event times throughout an operation. It’s great to see this grant- and donation-funded project already making a difference in the field and helping us better serve our community.
A big thank-you to Eversource and the Canton Lions Club for helping us enhance our safety and efficiency on scene.

The first incident took place near Thompson Hill, while the second occurred by The Clipper Shops. Both scenes required significant emergency response efforts. Fire and EMS personnel provided medical care, traffic management, and scene safety at each location.

On the evening of November 2nd, the Town of Canton Fire & EMS Department responded to a reported structure fire on Wright Road. While units were en route, dispatch received information indicating that occupants might still be inside the residence.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a heavily involved structure fire with significant fire conditions throughout the building. One occupant was assisted from the home by fire department personnel.
Automatic mutual aid was sent from surrounding fire departments to support fire suppression and tanker water supply operations. During the incident, one firefighter’s leg went through a fire-damaged section of flooring. The firefighter was evaluated on-scene by EMS crews and did not require transport.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Canton Fire Marshal’s Office

Work has begun on the new UTV-6 for the Town of Canton Fire & EMS. Emergency and scene lighting has been mounted and wired by Town mechanic Don Gravel, providing cost savings by not outsourcing the work. Once remaining work is completed, driver training will begin. We are hoping to have the unit in service and serving the Canton community by the end of the year.

The Town of Canton Fire and EMS Drone Team was recently featured in this month’s edition of Valley Life magazine! We are always researching new and innovative technologies and equipment to ensure our personnel are equipped to best serve our community and our neighboring communities.
Advances in technology—such as our drone program—are helping us expand our capabilities in emergency response, operations and public safety.
This exciting addition to our Department would not have been possible without the generous support of the Canton Community Health Fund. Their contribution has helped us better protect and serve the residents of Canton and surrounding areas.
