Lowest-net-cost formularies might make you think you’re getting the lowest cost on drugs. You may want to think again. These formularies typically include medications with the most market share—the well-known drugs—and often exclude clinical equivalents that are much cheaper.

While switching to a new, clinically identical medication may seem disruptive for patients, it’s time to change your thinking on disruption.

Ask your PBM if you can make changes to your formulary to include specific lowest-net-costs drugs. Doing so, could save your organization significantly.
