Some days are heavy. Staying present, getting through the moment, and taking care of yourself in small ways still matter. Effort counts, even when it’s quiet. Giving yourself space on hard days is part of staying grounded and moving forward.

Empathy invites us to slow down and truly engage with one another. It shows up through attentive listening, validating emotions, staying curious about experiences outside our own, and taking time to imagine what life may feel like from another person’s perspective.

At Lokiten Behavioral Health, empathy is practiced through presence and intention, creating space where people feel heard, respected, and understood. When we share authentically, notice similarities, and remain open without judgment, connection becomes possible, and trust can grow.

These moments of understanding, small but consistent, help strengthen relationships, support emotional safety, and foster meaningful growth in everyday interactions.

Which part of empathy do you find yourself practicing most often right now?

🐾 Happy Wild Wednesday! 🐾

Millie understood the assignment! Fresh from her grooming appointment, she’s clean, shiny, and clearly feeling her best. A new coat, renewed confidence, and the same calm, friendly energy she brings into our space every day.

At Lokiten Behavioral Health, Millie is a favorite for a reason. Her steady presence adds warmth and ease to the environment, often offering a moment of comfort in the middle of a busy or challenging day. Sometimes that comfort shows up quietly, sometimes with a wagging tail, and sometimes as a freshly groomed dog who knows she looks good. Those sunglasses? Just the finishing touch.

We think she nailed Wild Wednesday and set the tone for the rest of the week 🐾

Meet the Team Tuesday ✨

As part of our movement, we love spotlighting the leaders who shape Lokiten’s mission, culture, and commitment to compassionate care.

Meet Brittany, one of our Licensed Clinical Social Workers with a background in psychology and a strong focus on mental health. Brittny is deeply passionate about supporting clients as they work toward positive, sustainable, long-term change.

She has experience working with multidisciplinary care teams in both outpatient and inpatient settings, as well as in forensic social work. Brittny supports adults navigating life transitions, depression, anxiety, psychosis, grief, and trauma, and believes that no one should have to face these challenges alone. Her goal is to create a welcoming, supportive, and empowering space where clients feel encouraged in their journey toward growth and healing.

Outside of work, Brittny enjoys crafting, hula hooping, and spending time with her cat, Moosh, and her dog, Koda.

We are grateful for Brittny’s compassion, dedication, and the care she brings to our community.

We’re conditioned to move straight into fixing mode, to push through discomfort and solve the problem as fast as possible.

Mindfulness slows that down just enough to say, “I’m actually overwhelmed right now,” or “This is heavier than I expected.”

You don’t have to solve anything in that moment.
Simply noticing creates space, and space changes how your nervous system responds.

Sometimes the pause is the most supportive thing you can do for yourself.

The power of “yet.” 🌱

The language we use during challenges matters. Statements like “I can’t do this” or “I’m not good at this” signal finality to the brain. Adding yet shifts those thoughts into a growth-oriented frame, creating psychological flexibility and reducing self-criticism.

This small change supports learning, persistence, and emotional regulation by reminding us that progress is still unfolding. Difficulty isn’t failure, it’s part of the process.

The holidays wrap up, plans slow down, and the noise fades.
Sometimes that is exactly when anxious thoughts start to show up.

If relaxing feels harder than expected right now, that is normal.
It can take time to settle after a busy season.

There’s a lot of pressure on January 1 to reset, reinvent, and suddenly have clarity about the year ahead.

But mental health doesn’t run on a calendar.

You don’t need resolutions to be worthy of care.
You don’t need a “fresh start” to begin again.
And you don’t need to feel motivated to take small, meaningful steps forward.

Today can simply be a pause.
A moment to notice where you are , without judgment.
A reminder that growth is allowed to be slow, uneven, and human.

If the new year feels hopeful, that’s okay.
If it feels heavy, uncertain, or exhausting, that’s okay too.

You’re allowed to start this year exactly as you are.

As a new year begins, many people think about goals and resolutions. At Lokiten, we encourage approaching goals in a way that supports mental health, not pressure or burnout. SMART goals provide a structured, realistic framework that helps turn intentions into sustainable change.

By setting goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-limited, individuals can focus on progress rather than perfection. This approach is commonly used in therapy to support motivation, build coping skills, and create achievable steps toward personal growth.

As you enter the new year, consider what kind of goals will support your well-being, not just for January, but for the long term.

What’s one goal you want to approach more intentionally this year?

As we continue uplifting our movement, we’re shining a spotlight on the team members who bring heart, purpose, and compassion to Lokiten. Today, we’re putting Jessica in the spotlight—a dedicated Licensed Social Worker passionate about helping individuals from all walks of life move toward healing and growth.

“I am especially passionate about supporting children and families, recognizing the profound impact that care, guidance, and advocacy can have on their lives.”

Jessica takes a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, supporting individuals and families through complex challenges with warmth and steady guidance. She has experience working in foster care, adoption, domestic violence services, and school social work, giving her a deep understanding of the systems that shape clients' lives and the resilience they carry. She earned her Master of Social Work degree in August 2025 and is committed to continually expanding her knowledge to better serve her clients.

Outside of work, you can find Jessica outdoors with her husband and their puppy, or enjoying a quiet moment at a local coffee shop.

Jessica’s compassion, advocacy, and dedication to lifelong learning embody what we value here at Lokiten, and we’re grateful for the impact she makes every day. 💛
