What Is Macular Degeneration?

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the leading causes of vision loss in adults over 50 — and many people don't know they have it until it's progressed.

The macula is the part of your eye responsible for sharp, central vision — the kind you use for reading, recognizing faces, and driving. When it begins to break down, everyday tasks become increasingly difficult.

The good news? Regular eye exams allow us to detect early signs of AMD and monitor your vision closely — giving us the best chance to protect your sight for the long term.

Dr. Caitlin has extensive experience with macular degeneration and glaucoma. If you or a loved one is over 50 and overdue for an exam, now is a great time to schedule.

Most of the time, there's a simple explanation — but some of these can signal conditions like glaucoma or macular degeneration that are much easier to manage when caught early.
