"Physicians - mental health care providers - conversion therapy for minors prohibited - disciplinary action. The act prohibits a licensed physician specializing in psychiatry or a licensed, certified, or registered mental health care provider from engaging in conversion therapy with a patient under 18 years of age. A licensee who engages in these practices is subject to disciplinary action by the appropriate licensing board. "Conversion therapy" means efforts to change an individual's s*xual orientation, including efforts to change behaviors or gender expressions or to eliminate or reduce s*xual or romantic attraction or feelings toward individuals of the same s*x." (HB19-1129, Colorado General Assembly, 2019).
However, an 8-1 high court majority sided with a Christian counselor who argues the law banning talk therapy violates the First Amendment. (Lindsey Whitehurst, 9News, March 31, 2026).
