"What's a weight-neutral dietitian?"

I'm glad you asked.

Mental health, GI issues, and disordered eating may seem like separate challenges, but they are often interconnected, with each influencing the others in profound ways.

There's so much misinformation about food sensitivities. Some people (including some medical professionals) don't believe they exist. Others (also including some medical professionals) are terrified of them. If you're a dietitian, you're more than likely seeing people who are concerned about food sensitivities. They deserve data-driven, evidence-based, balanced advice that takes their experience into account, doesn't gaslight them, but also doesn't incite fear and harm their relationship with food.

Check out my article, "Staying Informed on Food Sensitivities," in the most recent Today's Dietitian issue--I hope it helps you and your patients!

For individuals dealing with disordered eating or a difficult relationship with food, food labels can be fraught, to say the least. Information overload about food becomes not just frustrating or confusing, but downright paralyzing.

If you struggle with anxiety about your food choices, my amazing mentee, a graduate student researcher studying ultra-processed foods and health outcomes, has some compassionate words for you. When labels are fraught, can we take a step back and focus more on mindful awareness of how the food makes us feel, gratitude for the enjoyment food can bring, and gentleness with ourselves when we sometimes make choices that don't feel good for our bodies?

New recipe I've been wanting to share for a while... my family's favorite way to use leftover roasted salmon. And perfect for springtime.

PS- I am NOT a food photographer, so this is not my photo. My recipe photo would be poorly lit and not so beautifully garnished... but it would have a whole lot more veggies. 🙃
