Love Pagosa!

Love Pagosa!

Good Morning from Pagosa Springs, Colorado ☀️🏔️

Did you know the entire town of Pagosa Springs exists because of a single natural wonder?

Long before this town was built, Native American tribes including the Ute, Navajo, Apache, and Pueblo people gathered along the San Juan River to soak in the sacred hot springs. The Ute people called the area “Pagosah,” meaning healing waters — a name that still perfectly describes this special place today.

Artifacts discovered near the springs show that people were visiting these waters over 9,000 years ago. For centuries the springs were considered sacred ground where people came for rest, healing, and spiritual connection.

In 1859, explorer Captain John Macomb documented the springs while exploring the San Juan Mountains. Soon after, settlers arrived and primitive bathhouses were built along the river. By 1883, the town of Pagosa Springs was officially established, and in 1891 it became an incorporated town.

But the real heart of this place is something incredible…

The Mother Spring.

Right along the San Juan River sits a powerful geothermal spring that feeds the hot springs pools in town. The Mother Spring is about 35 feet across and at least 1,002 feet deep, making it the deepest geothermal hot spring ever measured in the world.

And here’s the wild part…

When scientists measured the depth, the line never actually reached the bottom.

Water from deep within the earth rises through fractures in the rock beneath the San Juan Mountains and emerges here at temperatures reaching 110–144°F. This mineral-rich water then flows into the soaking pools that thousands of visitors enjoy every year.

For thousands of years people have come here seeking the same thing…

Peace. Healing. And the quiet power of the mountains.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that we live in a place with one of the most fascinating natural wonders in the world.

Pagosa Springs truly is a special place.

Live Radical.
