15 years 💜

In the entrepreneurial space, they tell you to talk about your why.

My mom is why.

Summer 2010 changed my life forever. My mom's health concerns were dismissed, as she was told the ubiquitous statement, "Just lose weight" as though losing weight would solve all the world's problems.

I remember the oncologist saying that the tumors most likely had been growing for anywhere from 1.5-3 years and if she wasn't "so fat," maybe they would've caught it sooner. THAT is a problem.

Obesity and weight stigma should never be an excuse to miss a life-threatening diagnosis. My mom deserved better. She would have fought with everything she had—but she left us just 11 days after her diagnosis.

Her story fuels my passion for health advocacy and personalized nutrition, and I’m sharing it in hopes that others won’t be dismissed the way she was.
