What they are and how to treat them ⬇️⬇️⬇️

🎅🏻 Pustules: Red, tender bumps with white pus as a result from excess oil and bacteria. Pustules often appear on the face, neck, chest, back, and shoulders. The best actives for treating them are mandelic acid, salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide.

⛄️ Cysts: A painful bump forming deep under the skin. This bump is an inflamed pocket of oil and dead skin, often red and tender. Best way to treat them is with mandelic acid, salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. I also suggest taking prebiotics and probiotics, a zinc supplement and to drink bone broth on an empty stomach in the morning.

🧝 Blackheads: A blackhead is a small, dark spot on the skin caused by a clogged hair follicle, resulting from oil and dead skin buildup, often appearing on the face, chest, and back. The keratin from the dead skin cells darkens when exposed to oxygen. Blackheads are not caused by bacteria and are not inflamed. The best way to treat them is to use a mix of chemical and manual exfoliants. Once a week each of both is great. I suggest mandelic acid and salicylic acid.

🍪 Whiteheads: A whitehead is a small, raised white or yellowish bump caused by clogged pores with oil and dead skin cells. They can appear anywhere, especially on the face, chest, and back. I suggest treating them with retinol, mandelic acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, sulfur and/or tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate.

🎄Papule: A papule is a solid, raised bump on the skin with distinct borders, a well defined shape, and no visible fluid. It has various textures such as smooth, rough, soft, or firm. I suggest treating these with benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, mandelic acid, AHA’s and retinol.

🦌 Nodules: A nodule is a hard, painful, deep bump under the skin, representing a severe acne form. It usually lacks a visible head and can persist for weeks or months. These are much tougher to treat but I suggest benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. Retinol can be of benefit as well.

If you want to know what treatments I’d use for each particular type, leave me a comment or send me a message ! 💌

These hacks will change your skin ! ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Please remember, not every hack or tip will work for every single person. However, there is a very good chance one of these will help you on your way to clear skin !

🥥 Coconut Cult: This is a fermented daily probiotic that can improve gut health, help balance skin microbiota, reduce inflammation, and support immune function. All these things can lead to healthier skin and less breakouts.

🌱 Spearmint Tea: Drinking spearmint tea can help reduce breakouts by lowering testosterone levels, decreasing sebum production while also providing anti inflammatory properties great for tackling acne.

☕️ Caffeine on an empty stomach: This can raise cortisol levels which can lead to heightened stress and inflammation, potentially making acne breakouts worse; disrupting skin balance.

💊 Pantothenic Acid: This supplement can help clear acne by regulating oil production, reducing inflammation, and supporting skin healing processes. 10/10 recommend for acne.

🧊 Icing your face: Do this morning and night and it can reduce inflammation, soothe redness, and improve blood circulation to help heal and alleviate breakouts.

🧴 Mandelic Acid: Adding this one ingredient can help clear acne by gently exfoliating the skin, unclogging pores, reducing inflammation, and promoting cell turnover. It’s my favorite skincare ingredient for acne !

Here’s the 411 ⬇️⬇️

🛢️Castor oil packs: This is the castor oil itself along with the use of the actual pack. Castor oil packs gently support detoxification by boosting glutathione levels, aiding liver function. This helps the liver process estrogen, preventing estrogen dominance, which can lead to acne. Using castor oil packs during the luteal phase can alleviate hormonal symptoms and reduce acne breakouts effectively.

🦴 Bone broth: Drinking bone broth on an empty stomach can improve acne by promoting gut health, reducing inflammation, and hydrating the skin. Its amino acids support digestion and nutrient absorption, leading to healthier skin. I’ve seen this method help many clients !

💦 Hypochlorous acid: Hypochlorous acid is a natural antibacterial byproduct of white blood cells, offering anti-viral and antibacterial properties. It can prevent future acne breakouts and helps balance the pH of the skin which is also good for acne.

💊 Zinc + Probiotic: A zinc and probiotic supplement can help clear skin and reduce blemishes and breakouts. Zinc aids in oil control and supports immune health, while the probiotic promotes gut health and microbiome balance, benefiting acne prone skin.

🫧 Cleansing in the AM: Washing your face in the morning is important because during the night the skin cells regenerate, the skin detoxes. It also removes night products, sweat, excess oil, and bacteria.

🥛 Food sensitivity test: Yes ! This is a great way to find out what foods you might be sensitive to and what might be triggering breakouts ! You could be sensitive to broccoli and not know it and it could be causing inflammation in your body ! I highly recommend a test like this !

These are just extra ways you can help your acne, methods I have tried myself and with clients and had great results !

Four month progress ! 🪄🔮

📍 This client came to me with post partum rosacea acne and I’m so lucky that she trusted me to help her on this journey 🏃‍♀️

📍 We did four microneedling treatments + chemical peel each four weeks apart.

📍 When this client came to me she hated being without makeup and had no confidence in how her skin looked.

📍 We switched out her makeup for tinted mineral sunscreen and put her on mandelic acid serum right away. Mandelic is amazing for rosacea AND acne 🪄

📍 Four months later her skin was smooth, the redness had calmed way down and her rosacea acne was magically gone.

🧙🏻‍♀️ Acne: Benzoyl peroxide is perfect for fighting bacteria and inflammation. Mandelic acid gently exfoliates and unclogs pores, even helping with closed comedones !Together in the same regimen they improve skin clarity and reduce acne.

🧙🏻‍♀️ Oily skin: Salicylic Acid is an effective BHA that exfoliates and unclogs pores . Niacinamide regulates oil production and minimizes inflammation. The combination of the two helps enhance overall skin texture and also balances moisture levels for oily skin.

🧙🏻‍♀️ Wrinkles: Retinol actually stimulates collagen production while reducing fine lines. Glycolic acid gently exfoliates dead skin. This improves texture and elasticity. Together this duo helps soften wrinkles and promotes smoother younger looking skin.

🧙🏻‍♀️ Melasma: Hexylresorcinol is so amazing for brightening skin and reducing pigmentation. Then if you add alpha arbutin it inhibits melanin production. This team is THE team for melasma and hyperpigmentation ! Together, they are able to target melasma resulting in a more even skin tone and reduction in dark spots.

These are all a NO from me 🎃👻

💄 Sleeping in makeup: Sleeping in makeup can clog pores, cause irritation, prematurely age you, lead to breakouts, and damage skin’s natural barrier.

☀️ Skipping SPF: Skipping SPF increases skin cancer risk, accelerates aging, and causes sunburn and skin damage.

🔪 Dermaplaning at home: Home dermaplaning can lead to improper technique, micro tears in the skin, scarring, skin damage, and increased risk of infection.

🤏🏻 Popping your pimples: Without proper technique you can cause more damage to the already inflamed pustule. If you do not properly extract everything it can continue to come back and be inflamed. This can cause pigmentation and scarring.

🧼 Bar soap on your face: Bar soap can strip natural oils, leading to dryness, irritation, and disrupted skin barrier function.

🐄 Beef tallow: Beef tallow can clog pores, potentially causing breakouts and irritation especially in acne prone skin types.

🐍 Not exfoliating: Skipping exfoliation leads to dull skin, clogged pores, and accumulation of dead skin cells.

🍊 Skipping antioxidants: This increases free radical damage, leading to premature aging, dullness, and uneven skin tone.

🔥 Hot take: Yes, I think you should cleanse in the morning ☀️

There are a lot of opinions on this around the internet, but let’s just talk about a few things 😉

🧴 Skincare residue: Did you put retinol on last night ? Did you put a thick moisturizer or a skin oil ? If you are just stacking morning products on top of occlusive products, how do we expect that morning product to function properly? We want those products to pe*****te and work for us ! Not be waisted because they don’t have a proper pathway into the skin !

💧 Sweat, dirt, bacteria: Yes, all these things can be acquired on your face while sleeping. Do you excrete sweat while you sleep ? Is there absolutely not weird bacteria or dirt on your pillowcase or sheets ? Probably not. It’s the natural cycle of the skin to excrete during the night, you should wash that off in the morning.

🫧 Primes your skin: As I stated before, it prepares your skin for your morning product ! If your retinol is meant for night time or you have a PM moisturizer, why would you leave that and wear it on your skin during the day ? Give your products a proper pathway to do their job !

🛢️Hair oil: All hair has oil and even if you have short hair, that oil gets on your pillow case and sheets and then onto your face. Wash that off ! Hair oil can clog pores and cause breakouts. Washing your face in the morning removes excess oil, promoting clearer skin.

🪦Dead skin cells: We shed about 30,000 to 40,000 dead skin cells each night. Washing your face in the morning helps remove these cells, preventing clogged pores and promoting healthy skin.

🤤 Drool: Yes, it can escape during sleep, often due to relaxed muscles and you may not even realize it. At night, saliva production decreases but bacteria THRIVE, multiplying in the mouth. This bacteria can transfer to the skin, leading to potential breakouts. Washing your face in the morning removes these harmful bacteria.

Lastly, if you feel too dry, it’s your cleanser !

I’m not saying that you’re going to automatically get some breakouts from these things, but it’s worth it to think about where you might be picking up bacteria that could be causing some problems on your cute face 😮

🦠 These things and places are known for having a lot of contact, a lot of oils or bacteria.

🛒 Next time you are breaking out, think of where you may be touching often and give it a quick clean or wipe down ! It can’t hurt !

Did you know ?? ⬇️ Read more

What causes it:

💊 Lack of vitamin B: Lack of vitamin B can disrupt melanin production and skin cell turnover, leading to uneven pigmentation and hyperpigmentation as the skin struggles to repair and maintain its health. However this can be tricky if you are acne prone because vitamin b can often cause breakouts.

🧬 Genetics: Genetics can influence melanin production, leading to variations in skin tone and predisposition to hyperpigmentation.

☀️ Sun exposure: This triggers increased melanin production as a protective response, resulting in darkened patches or spots on the skin.

🚻 Hormonal imbalance: Hormonal imbalances, especially during pregnancy or menopause, can stimulate melanin production, leading to increased pigmentation and dark spots on the skin.

How to help:

🧴SPF everyday: SPF protects the skin from UV rays, preventing further melanin production and allowing existing hyperpigmentation to fade more effectively over time.

🫐 Foods high in antioxidants: Antioxidant rich foods combat oxidative stress, support skin health, and promote even skin tone, helping to reduce hyperpigmentation over time.

🤏🏻 Not picking: Avoiding skin picking prevents inflammation and scarring, allowing hyperpigmentation to heal naturally and reducing the risk of further discoloration.

🦔 Consistent gentle exfoliation: This removes dead skin cells, promotes cell turnover, and encourages fading of hyperpigmentation, leading to a more even complexion.

🍪 Biotin boosts our skin’s protein production, especially keratin.

🍪 However, this increase in keratin can clog pores. Then combine that with natural oils and it will form sticky plugs in our skin.

🍪 This can result in blackheads, comedones, and visible acne.

🍪 In some cases, biotin can lead to cystic acne as these clogs become trapped beneath rapidly regenerating skin.

🍪 If you want a good hair supplement try - it’s biotin free and in clinical studies showed a 90% increase in hair growth at the 3 month mark
