Meet Our Interns!

Ari Henry
Intern (Kids, Teens, & Adult Individuals)

Hi, I’m Ari! (She/They)

Seeking therapy can feel like a big step, and you don’t have to figure everything out on your own. I take a client-centered approach that honors your lived experience, strengths, and goals. Together, we create a space where you can explore what’s weighing on you, better understand your emotional world, and move toward changes that feel meaningful and sustainable.

I integrate techniques from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to support clients at different ages and phases of life. Whether we’re working through anxiety, trauma, chronic illness, identity exploration, relationship challenges, or life transitions, I tailor our work to fit you.

I’m especially passionate about working with the LGBTQ+ community and creating an affirming space where you can show up fully as yourself.
My goal is to provide a warm, collaborative relationship where you feel both supported and gently challenged. Therapy can be a place to build insight, strengthen coping skills, and reconnect with your resilience.

I would be honored to be part of your journey.

Intern (Teens & Adult Individuals)

Hi I'm Heather and I believe everyone deserves compassionate, affirming care. I strive to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard and empowered to be the best version of themselves.

My work is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and a solution-focused approach that incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and parts-based work to promote self-compassion and psychological flexibility.

I believe that no single therapeutic approach is suitable for everyone, and I draw from multiple modalities to best address each client's individual needs, goals, and experiences.

Meet our Interns!

Kazzandra Medellin
Intern

I believe that therapy is a collaborative effort where counselors and clients can work through situations, feelings, and navigating systems together. This space is for you – a space for you to explore what is weighing your heart in a judgement-free and supportive environment.

Sometimes trying to carry everything you are dealing with on your own can be overwhelming, and I want to be here to help you carry some of that weight with you. Healing is not a destination point, but something that can happen daily through small, manageable steps.

I am a person-centered counselor who believes that you are the expert of your own life. My practice is grounded in cultural humility for all individuals, focusing on the strengths you already possess and honoring your experiences, especially those in q***r, gender expansive, disability, and BIPOC communities.

I aim to be an authentic, skilled listener who helps you connect your own narrative in ways you may not have seen before. I integrate techniques and interventions from person-centered and relational-cultural theory therapies.

I am currently working towards a MA in Clinical Mental Health and have a background in sociology. I am interested in exploring ways to utilize art and spirituality in session, as well as thinking about how cultural and spiritual beliefs can be integrated into our healing journeys, including traditional forms of healing (i.e. curanderismo), tarot, ancestral work, and more!

Meet Our Interns!

Rachel Schroeder
Intern (Kids 9 & Up, Teens, Adult Individuals)

You bring something unique and beautiful to this world, and my goal is to help you discover that for yourself. Tell me your story, and we’ll work together to change the story you’re telling yourself.

I live by the words, “let your love be the thing that defines you,” and bring compassion, acceptance, and genuine care to my work. My approach is gentle, authentic, and collaborative—I would never suggest anything I wouldn’t do myself.

As a person-centered therapist, I will encourage you to reach your full potential. I provide guidance, objective insights, and practical strategies designed to foster self-assurance and facilitate personal growth. We’ll foster connection and trust, so you leave sessions feeling empowered and supported.

I enjoy working with self-compassion, anxiety, communication, and relationship or social challenges. I also have extensive experience with children and adolescents facing anxiety, depression, and behavioral challenges, including autism, and ODD.

Life is short and sometimes painful — so let’s spend it connecting and supporting one another.

Meet Our Interns!

Matthew Lopez
Intern (Kids, Teens, Adults, Couples, Families)

There is no wrong reason to seek counseling, and all are welcome here, no matter your background. I look forward to supporting anyone who wants to learn and grow.

After graduating from Colorado College in 2014, I spent around 11 years working in education and the corporate world before finding my calling in mental health. I am currently a Clinical Mental Health Counseling intern at Roots to Ground, and I'm passionate about creating a space where you can show up authentically.

My approach centers on Cognitive Therapy with motivational interviewing skills woven throughout our work together. What does that mean for you? We'll collaborate to identify, challenge, and replace the dysfunctional automatic thoughts, cognitive distortions, and underlying core beliefs that may be holding you back. From there, we'll develop meaningful goals to create the change you're seeking and increase your overall wellness.

I have a particular passion for working with LGBTQ+ individuals, those navigating religious trauma, and BIPOC clients. Your experiences matter, your story matters, and I'm here to walk alongside you on your journey toward healing and growth.

If you're ready to take this step, I'd love to hear from you.
