Worried about low milk supply? You’re not alone! Here are some key ways to support and increase your milk production:

👶 Nurse frequently – The more you nurse, the more your body knows to produce!
💦 Stay hydrated – Water is essential for milk production. Drink up!
🥑 Eat nutrient-dense foods – Oats, flaxseeds, and healthy fats can help support supply.
🤱 Ensure a good latch – An effective latch helps your baby remove milk efficiently.
🍼 Use breast compressions – This can help your baby get more milk while nursing.
⚡ Try power pumping – A great way to signal your body to make more milk!
😴 Prioritize rest & reduce stress – Your body produces better when you feel supported.

Every breastfeeding journey is unique! If you need personalized support, we’re here to help. Book a consult today!

Here's what I recommend you look for in your bottles:
- Gradual slope ni**le shape (no sharp angles, think small ni**le tip with large base, without it gradually getting bigger)
- Slow flow ni**le - if your goal is to switch between bottle & breast, it is a good idea to get a flow rate that allows your baby to do so!
- Fits in your babies mouth - this is a given. Some babies (depending on their gestational age at birth) have smaller mouths, and only specific bottles will work at that time. Some babies may have different shaped mouths, palates, etc, and may need a specific bottle for their mouth.
- High quality materials - look for a bottle that is a material you feel comfortable with. Whether that be glass, plastic, stainless steel, that is up to you!

If there is anything I've learned frustrates parents most it's hearing that this is all you need to know to determine if your baby is getting enough milk, but it's true!

I mean of course there are other factors involved in certain circumstances, but for the majority of mom-baby dyads, this is all the info you need.

If you're uncertain that your baby is getting enough milk, please reach out! We have an extremely sensitive scale that helps determine exactly how much your baby is getting during your feedings, even down to how much they are getting from each individual breast!

Weighted feeds are a standard part of a visit with most IBCLC's. Booking link in bio for full consults (which always include weighted feeds) or just a simple weighted feed in our office.

Have you experienced any of these symptoms or noticed any of these things in your baby?

These are most commonly the things nursing parents complain about for themselves or that they've noticed in their baby.

From a chiropractic stand point, we also notice a lot of oral tension, neck tension, as well as diaphragm tension. When I've noticed these symptoms in either mom or baby, this usually alerts me to do a deeper dive on the oral tissues and see what may be going on.

Tongue and lip ties are comanaged in our office with an amazing tongue and lip tie dentist in the Colorado Springs area as well as another in Denver. We love to have relationships with these offices as it makes your referral seamless, as it should be!

The letdown reflex, also known as the milk ejection reflex, is a crucial aspect of breastfeeding. It's a physiological response that occurs when a lactating person's breasts are stimulated, typically by their baby suckling or by other triggers like hearing a baby cry or thinking about their baby. When this reflex is triggered, it causes the milk stored in the milk ducts to be released and flow into the milk sinuses, making it available for the baby to feed.

How to encourage a let down:
✨ Have a special treat that you love while breastfeeding or pumping
✨ Smell a scent that you love! (could very well be your baby!)
✨ Watch or read a good show/book that you love
✨ Get cozy with a soft blanket you love, something that gives you the warm fuzzies

If you're struggling to have a letdown reflex or if you're not sure if you are, this is a great thing a lactation professional can help you with! Book yourself a consult at the link in my bio!

🍼 Weaning Wonders: Transitioning from breast to bottle or solids can be a journey! Here are three tips to make the process smoother for both you and your little one:

1️⃣ Gradual Transition: Slowly introduce alternative feeding methods while still offering comfort and closeness. Gradually drop one feed at a time and replace that feeding with a bottle feeding or alternative feeding method of your choice.
2️⃣ Adjust: Give your body time to adjust to the dropped feeding so that you don't become engorged or develop clogged ducts, increasing your risk of mastitis. You can pump or hand express just until you're comfortable and the fullness feeling has gone away.
3️⃣ Most comforting feeds: Ensure that you drop the most comforting feeding for you and your baby last. This is normally the first feed when waking and the last feed before going to bed. Maintain skin-to-skin contact, cuddles, and soothing routines to nurture the bond beyond breastfeeding.

As always, seek guidance by a lactation professional when navigating weaning your baby from breastfeeding!
